Clements McMullen
Clements McMullen (February 5, 1892 – January 9, 1959) was an American Air Force major general whose last assignment was deputy commander, Strategic Air Command, headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. He assumed this position January 10, 1947 and served until October 25, 1948. Biography McMullen was born in Largo, Florida, in 1892. He attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia and engaged in civil engineering in Florida for five years. He became a flying cadet on September 18, 1917, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Aviation Section, Signal Reserve on March 6, 1918. Upon becoming a flying cadet, he entered the School of Military Aeronautics at the Georgia School of Technology. Upon receiving his commission in March 1918, he went to Kelly Field, Texas, to enter the School for Instructors. Largo, Florida
Largo is the third largest city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States, as well as the fourth largest in the Tampa Bay area. As of the 2020 Census, the city had a population of 82,500, up from 69,371 in 2000. Largo was first incorporated in 1905. In 1913, it became the first municipality in Pinellas County to adopt a council-manager government. It switched back and forth from "town" to "city" a few times, and became a city again in 1974. Rockwell Field is a former United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) military airfield, located northwest of the city of Coronado, California, on the northern part of the Coronado Peninsula across the bay from San Diego, California. This airfield played a fundamental role in the development of United States military aviation in the period before and during World War I. Originally it was The Curtiss School of Aviation, founded by Glenn Curtiss. In November 1912, the Army established a permanent flying school on the island. It served as a major flying school during World War I, and remained active as an Army Air Corps facility after the war. The facility was transferred to the United States Navy on 31 January 1939. Kelly Field (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) is a Joint-Use facility located in San Antonio, Texas. It was originally named after George E. M. Kelly, the first member of the U.S. military killed in the crash of an airplane he was piloting.
