Clayton Park (album)
''Clayton Park'' is the second full-length album by Canadian rock band Thrush Hermit. It was released on Sonic Unyon in 1999, and is the last album they released as a band. The album produced two singles and videos for the songs "From the Back of the Film" and "The Day We Hit the Coast". Clayton Park is a suburb in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the band's hometown. The album was a shortlisted Juno Award nominee for Alternative Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2000. It was later selected as the 85th greatest Canadian album of all time in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book ''The Top 100 Canadian Albums''. The Top 100 Canadian Albums
''The Top 100 Canadian Albums'' is a book by journalist Bob Mersereau, published in 2007 by Goose Lane Editions. Mersereau surveyed 600 music journalists, retailers, musicians and disc jockeys of all ages, from all parts of Canada, who each submitted a list of 10 favourite Canadian albums released between 1957 and 2007. Criticism Mersereau acknowledged that the list would cause debate among music fans across the country. "The important part is to talk about Canadian music and enjoy it," he said. "I'd be shocked if there wasn't complaints and arguments and debates." A review from the ''National Post'' by Mark Medley identifies regional and genre biases in the book. Saying, “While any list of "Top 100" anything is sure to ignite some controversy, there are definitely some glaring omissions,” Medley lists 10 albums, four from British Columbia artists. Girl Versions
''Girl Versions'' is the sixth full-length album by Canadian singer-songwriter Emm Gryner, released in 2001 on Gryner's independent Dead Daisy Records. It received a Juno Awards nomination for "Best Pop Album" in 2002. Similarly to Tori Amos' '' Strange Little Girls'', which was released the same year, ''Girl Versions'' presented Gryner's reinterpretations of songs written by men. Unlike Amos' album, however, Gryner did not create characters to present the songs in an ironic or political context; instead, she simply chose some of her own favourite rock, heavy metal and punk songs and interpreted them in her own more pop-oriented style. The album was originally recorded live on March 24, 2001, in the Sarnia Public Library's theatre with cellist Alex McMaster. The tapes from the concert were allegedly lost, leading Gryner to re-record the album at Umbrella Sound in Toronto with producer Chris Wardman. Emm Gryner
Emm Gryner (born 8 June 1975 in Sarnia, Ontario) is a Canadian-Filipino singer, songwriter, recording artist, and author. She has released 20 albums as a solo performer, and has collaborated with artists including David Bowie and Chris Hadfield. Early life Gryner's childhood was spent in Forest, Ontario. Her father was of half Irish heritage and her mother was Filipina. She started to learn piano at age 4, picked up bass around age 14, and later took up guitar as well. Gryner attended North Lambton Secondary School in Forest, Ontario. Following high school, she graduated from Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts program in 1995. Gryner has two brothers, Tony and record producer and musician Frank. Career Gryner started her music career in Toronto, where her original song "Wisdom Bus" won a nationwide songwriting contest sponsored by Standard Broadcasting. Grenadine Records
Grenadine Records was an independent record label based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The music label was founded in 1997 by Eric Y. Lapointe and Alex Megelas who met at Bishop's University's radio station CJMQ-FM. The label, initially named Bittersweet Records, released two 7" vinyl records and then changed its name in 1999 when a New York City-based label of the same name was discovered. The label was officially announced as Grenadine Records as of March 1999 along with its first CD release Syrup & Gasoline Vol.1 which was a compilation of bands from across Canada. Budgie (band)
Budgie were a Welsh heavy metal music, heavy metal band from Cardiff. The band formed in 1967, and the following year recorded a demo; in 1971, their first album (of blues-oriented hard rock), produced by Rodger Bain, was released by MCA Records, MCA. The band, a classic power trio with the occasional keyboard player, released ten albums, with MCA, A&M Records, A&M, and RCA Records, RCS, between 1971 and 1982, attracting a fair number of fans and achieving modest commercial success. Metalworks Studios is a music recording studio in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1978 by Gil Moore of the Canadian rock group, Triumph. Over a span of 40 years, Metalworks has been the recipient of Canadian Music Week's 'Studio of the Year' 17 times. Since 1978, Metalworks Studios has expanded into a six studio facility offering in-house tracking, mixing and mastering, as well as video editing and DVD authoring. Dale Morningstar is a Canadian rock musician and recording engineer and producer, originally from Chippawa, Ontario. Biography Morningstar is the founding member of The Dinner Is Ruined, an avant-garde rock band based in Toronto in the early 1990s. The band is known for an unconventional approach to music, Morningstar once even playing the stationary bicycle live at Massey Hall. Morningstar, however, is perhaps best known for co-founding The Gas Station Recording studio, which has been called "the hub of the Canadian indie rock sound" with Don Kerr in 1990. The studio started off in his basement apartment in an old Liberty Street warehouse (by King and Dufferin). They quickly outgrew the space and moved around the corner to 53 Fraser Avenue. Ian McGettigan
Ian McGettigan is a Canadian rock musician and producer. He was the bassist and a singer and songwriter for Thrush Hermit. Career McGettigan toured through Canada and the United States with Thrush Hermit. The band released two EPs on Murderecords, ''Smart Bomb'' and ''Great Pacific Ocean''. They signed to the American label Elektra Records and released their full length '' Sweet Homewrecker''. Their 1999 album '' Clayton Park'', on Sonic Unyon Records, was their most successful album, both critically and commercially. Following Thrush Hermit's break-up, McGettigan produced and contributed to a number of acts and projects, including Joel Plaskett Emergency, Peter Elkas, Jewish Legend, and Two Hours Traffic. William Joel MacDonald Plaskett (born April 18, 1975) is a Canadian rock musician and songwriter based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a member of Halifax alternative rock band Thrush Hermit in the 1990s. Plaskett performs in a number of genres, from blues and folk to hard rock, country, and pop.
