Clay Center is a city in and the county seat of Clay County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 4,199. History Clay Center was first settled in 1862. It was named from its position near the geographical center of Clay County. The first post office was established in Clay Center on July 3, 1862. Clay Center was located on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. Geography Clay Center is located at (39.379920, -97.123168). The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. Idana is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clay County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 54. It is located approximately 6.5 miles west of Clay Center, and 1.5 miles south of US Route 24 along 16th Rd. History Idana is combination of the names of two settlers: Ida Howland and Anna Broughton. A post office was opened in Chapmanville (an extinct town) in 1879, but it was moved to Idana in 1882 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1980. Idana was located on the Union Pacific Railroad. Demographics The 2020 United States census counted 54 people, 18 households, and 14 families in Idana. The population density was 159.8 per square mile (61.7/km). There were 26 housing units at an average density of 76.9 per square mile (29.7/km). Oak Hill is a city in Clay County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 24. History Oak Hill was laid out in 1872. A post office was opened in 1871 in Oak Hill (also historically spelled Oakhill), and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1995. In 1887, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built a branch line from Neva (3 miles west of Strong City) through Oak Hill to Superior, Nebraska. In 1996, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway merged with Burlington Northern Railroad and renamed to the current BNSF Railway. Most locals still refer to this railroad as the "Santa Fe".
