Judge Claude Frollo is a fictional character and the main antagonist of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996 film), 1996 animated film version of ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame''. He was based on Archdeacon Claude Frollo from Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, 1831 novel. Frollo is ranked one of the greatest villains in the Disney Renaissance, and widely regarded one of the darkest animated film villains in the history of List of Disney theatrical animated feature films, Disney animated films. Personality Frollo is portrayed in the film as the ruthless, fanatically religious French Minister of Justice. He views the world and everyone in it (except for himself) as corrupt and sinful, and reserves particular hatred for Paris' Romani people, Romani population, whom he longs to exterminate.
