Claude Brochu, CM (born October 29, 1944), is a Canadian businessman best known as former president and principal owner of the Montreal Expos. Early life and career Brochu was born on October 29, 1944 in Quebec City, Quebec. He was employed by ''Adams Distilleries'' from 1976 to 1978, then by the Seagram distillery from 1978 to 1985, where he served as the executive vice-president from 1982 to 1985. Montreal Expos He was named president of the Montreal Expos baseball club by Charles Bronfman in 1986, replacing John McHale. On June 14, 1991, he formed a public-private partnership of 13 investors to buy the team and prevent a threatened move to Arizona or to Miami, where retired Miami banker Lou Poller had attempted to purchase and move them. The 1994 Montreal Expos season was the 26th season of the franchise. They had the best record in Major League Baseball (74-40), when the 1994–95 Major League Baseball strike ended the season and the team's postseason aspirations. From June 1 forward, Montreal transformed into the dominant club in the league, going 46−18 until the strike. Jonah Keri
Jonah Keri (born September 20, 1974) is a Canadian former journalist, sportswriter, and editor. He is currently serving a prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple counts of domestic violence offences. Early life and education Keri is from Montreal, Quebec. A fire sale is the sale of goods at extremely discounted prices. The term originated in reference to the sale of goods at a heavy discount due to fire damage. It may or may not be defined as a closeout, the final sale of goods to zero inventory. They are said to occur in the financial markets when bidders who value assets highly are prevented from bidding on them, depressing the average selling price below what it otherwise would be. This lowering of the price can cause even further issues because it may be inaccurately perceived as signalling negative information. Kenneth Wade Hill (born December 14, 1965) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. During a 14-year career, he pitched for seven teams between 1988 and 2001. As a member of the Montreal Expos in 1994, he appeared in the All-Star Game and finished the season tied for the National League lead in wins.
