Classical guitar pedagogy is a collection of ideas, structures and patterns that are commonly used in teaching guitar. These standards include a variety of techniques and songs that incorporate these techniques to develop a player's abilities. Classical guitar pedagogy The classical guitar pedagogy is a collection of ideas, structures and patterns that are typical in teaching the instrument. These elements have been formalised by several music governing bodies, most notably ABRSM. These frameworks contain a rubric to teach classical guitar from novice to expert. The pedagogy includes physical techniques and a wide array of songs that encompass these techniques as well as developing breadth in the styles of classical guitar. Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. A plectrum or individual finger picks may also be used to strike the strings. The sound of the guitar is projected either acoustically, by means of a resonant chamber on the instrument, or amplified by an electronic pickup and an amplifier. Musical technique is the ability of instrumental and vocal musicians to exert optimal control of their instruments or vocal cords in order to produce the precise musical effects they desire. Improving one's technique generally entails practicing exercises that improve one's muscular sensitivity and agility. Technique is independent of musicality. Compositional technique is the ability and knowledge composers use to create music, and may be distinguished from instrumental or performance technique, which in classical music is used to realize compositions, but may also be used in musical improvisation. Music examinations are a method of formally assessing the accomplishments of pupils learning musical instruments. These are called grades. Although there are music examinations available to school and university students alongside other regular qualifications and assessments, there are also a number of independent bodies who solely provide assessment in musical ability which are open to all. Overview Trinity College London was the first organization to offer examinations in music to external students in 1877. John Sloboda
John Anthony Sloboda OBE FBA (born 13 June 1950) is Research Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he currently leads research on the Social Impact of Making Music. He is also one of the founders of the Iraq Body Count project. Biography Sloboda was educated at St Benedict's School, Ealing. He studied at Queens' College, Cambridge and University College, London, where he took his PhD. His academic work has mainly been in music psychology, a subdiscipline which draws together psychologists, neuroscientists and academic musicians. Ricardo Iznaola
Ricardo Iznaola (born February 21, 1949) is an American guitarist, music educator, composer, and arranger of Cuban birth. Life and career Born Ricardo Fernández-Iznaola in Havana, Cuba, Izanola moved with his family to Columbia after the Cuban Revolution. The family eventually relocated to Venezuela where Izanola studied under guitarist Manuel Enrique Pérez Díaz at the Escuela Superior de Música José Ángel Lamas in Caracas. He later studied with Regino Sainz de la Maza in Madrid and Alirio Díaz in Caracas. He won first prize at the Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition in 1968 and again in 1971.
