Fergie's Fledglings were a group of association football, football players recruited by Manchester United F.C., Manchester United under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson (often nicknamed "Fergie") and trained by assistant coaches Brian Kidd and Eric Harrison (footballer), Eric Harrison, before eventually progressing to the first team during the 1990s. The alliteration in the term is a clear homage to the Busby Babes, the famously youthful Manchester United team assembled by the club's former manager Matt Busby, Sir Matt Busby and his assistant coach Jimmy Murphy (footballer), Jimmy Murphy during the 1950s. Late 1980s Fledglings The term "Fergie's Fledglings" was first coined by the media in the 1988–89 season to describe a group of young footballers who were introduced into the Manchester United first team by the manager Alex Ferguson. The 1992–93 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between August 1992 and May 1993. New professionals The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association accepted its largest intake to date, 154 new players, bringing the total to 719 (excluding 27 billiards-only members). The new professionals included world amateur champion Noppadon Noppachorn, world under-21 champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins (who won the junior event at the 1991 World Masters), Indian amateur champion Yasin Merchant, the fifth-ranked women's player Tessa Davidson, and future multiple ranking event winners Dominic Dale, Stephen Lee, Joe Perry and Mark Williams.
