Utz Claassen (born May 7, 1963 in Hannover) is a German manager, management consultant, entrepreneur, investor and author. He has held senior management positions in some of Germany’s most prominent companies such as Volkswagen and EnBW. Education In 1980 Claassen earned his high school diploma ( Abitur) after skipping two grades with a grade point average of 0.7 (close to the highest value possible on the German scale). As this was the best diploma score a high school student had hitherto achieved in Germany, he was invited to the German ARD (broadcaster) TV show "Auf Los geh's los". Claassen studied economics at Leibniz University Hannover and at Oxford University. From 1986 to 1987, he served as the President of all post-graduate students at Magdalen College and of the entire University of Oxford. George Claassen
George Claassen is a South African journalist who was the head of department of journalism at Pretoria Technikon and Stellenbosch University. Claassen was the first academic in the field of journalism to develop a course in science and technology journalism and can rightly be called the "father of science communication in Africa" In 1997 he developed and established the first university course in science and technology journalism at an African university. He became science editor for the Afrikaans daily newspaper, Die Burger and is the founding director of Sceptic South Africa. He is occasionally referred to as the "South African Richard Dawkins." Claassen is the director of the Centre for Science and Technology Mass Communication (CENSCOM) at the University of Stellenbosch and is the ombudsman of Media24's Community Press. Errie Claassens (born 27 October 1981) is a former South Africa rugby union player. Errie is the brother of RC Toulonnais, Toulon player Michael Claassens who plays at scrum-half (rugby union), scrum half and has represented the Free State Cheetahs and the Springboks. Claassens moved to the UK in 2005 to sign for the Rotherham R.U.F.C., Rotherham Titans where he spent four seasons, developing from a bit part player into a proven try scorer. Wynand Claassen
Wynand Claassen (born 16 January 1951, in Schweizer-Reneke) is a former South African rugby player and Springbok captain. Playing career He was selected as eighth-man for Northern Transvaal whilst studying architecture at the University of Pretoria in the late 1970s. He formed a loose-trio with Thys Lourens and Burger Geldenhuys and soon had two Currie Cup final victories, in 1975 and 1977. In 1980 he moved to Natal and was selected for the Springboks in 1981, captaining the team on his debut against Ireland. Despite Natal's relegation to the Currie Cup B section at the end of 1981 he continued as Springbok captain until 1984. He played seven test matches for the Springboks, all as captain and also played in six tour matches, scoring two tries. Professor Johannes Theodorus Claassen (23 September 1929 – 6 January 2019) was a South African rugby player, playing at the second-row forward position. Biography He attended school in Christiana and later attended University in Potchefstroom. He made his first appearance for Western Transvaal when he was 19 years old and went on to play a total of 105 matches for Western Transvaal. He made his Test debut six years later against the Lions at Ellis Park. In 1958, Claassen became captain of the South African National Team before a match against the French. In 1962, he led the South African team to a winning streak, including a major victory over the British and Irish Lions. Michael Claassens (born 28 October 1982 in Kroonstad, Free State) is a former South African rugby union player that played professional rugby between 2003 and 2018. He made in excess of 350 senior appearances, including eight test matches for the South Africa national team. Arthur Claassen
Arthur Claassen, Sr. (February 19, 1859 - March 16, 1920) was an orchestral conductor. Biography He was born in Stargard, Germany on February 19, 1859. He attended the music school in Weimar, Germany. From 1880 to 1884 he worked as an opera conductor in Göttingen and Magdeburg. In 1884 he migrated to the United States and became the conductor for the New York Eichenkranz and then the conductor for the Brooklyn Arion in 1890. Claassen moved to San Francisco, California in 1919. He died on March 16, 1920 in San Francisco.
