Civilized Alliance (Iraq)
The Civilized Alliance (Tamadon) (Arabic: تحالف تمدّن, ''Tahalof Tamadon'') is an Iraqi political alliance formed by a number of civil, liberal & national parties. The alliance, announced in January-2018 consists of four main parties, the People's Party for Reform, the Al-Etifak National Party, the National Civil Movement and Iraq's National Movement. The alliance includes a number of independent liberal figures. It is headed by the Secretary-General of the People's Party for Reform Faiq Al Sheikh Ali. The alliance has stated that it will participate strongly in the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections staged to take place on 12 May 2018 aiming for change and reform in Iraqi politics. Faiq Al Sheikh Ali
Faiq Al Sheikh Ali ( ar, فائق الشيخ علي, Fāʾiq aš-Šayḫ ʿAlī; born 2 July 1963) is an Iraqi lawyer and politician of currently serving as a Member of the Council of Representatives of Iraq since 2014 and is the Secretary-General of the People's Party for Reform. In parliament, he is a member of the Judiciary (Legal) Committee. He led the Civilized Alliance for the 2018 Iraqi parliamentary election. Early life and education Born in the city of Najaf, south of Baghdad to a prominent religious family (Grandson of Sheikh Ali Al-Murandi born in Morand in Iran), Faiq Al Sheikh Ali has, however been a Secular Liberal throughout his life. Independent High Electoral Commission
The Independent High Electoral Commission ( ar, المفوضية العليا المستقلة للانتخابات; IHEC) is Iraq's electoral commission. The electoral commission is headed by a nine-member board. Seven of those members are voting and must be Iraqi citizens. The IHEC is currently headed bJudge Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf. Basra
Basra ( ar, ٱلْبَصْرَة, al-Baṣrah) is an Iraqi city located on the Shatt al-Arab. It had an estimated population of 1.4 million in 2018. Basra is also Iraq's main port, although it does not have deep water access, which is handled at the port of Umm Qasr. 2018 Iraqi Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Iraq on 12 May 2018. The elections decided the 329 members of the Council of Representatives, the country's unicameral legislature, who in turn will elect the Iraqi President and Prime Minister. The People's Party for Reform (Arabic: , ''Ḥizb Al-Sha'ab Lil Islah'') is an Iraqi Liberal Civil political party founded in 2011 under its previous name, the People's Party.
