Civil War (comic Book)
"Civil War" is a 2006–07 Marvel Comics crossover storyline consisting of a seven-issue limited series of the same name written by Mark Millar and penciled by Steve McNiven and various tie-in books. The storyline builds upon events in previous Marvel storylines, particularly "Avengers Disassembled", "House of M", and "Decimation". The series' tagline is "Whose Side Are You On?" The plot begins when the U.S. government passes a Superhero Registration Act, ostensibly to have super-powered individuals act under official regulation, somewhat akin to law enforcement. Superheroes who oppose the act, led by Captain America, find themselves in conflict with its supporters, led by Iron Man. Spider-Man is caught in the middle, while the X-Men take a neutral stance. The superheroes who support the law, including Mister Fantastic and Ms. Marvel, become increasingly authoritarian. Steven McNiven
Steven McNiven is a Canadian comic book artist. He first gained prominence on CrossGen's ''Meridian'', before moving onto books such as ''Ultimate Secret'', ''Marvel Knights 4'', '' New Avengers'' and ''Civil War''. Early life Steven McNiven is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Career McNiven first came into prominence after he took over as a penciller of CrossGen's ''Meridian'' title following the departure of Josh Middleton. Later, he gained more fame working for Marvel Comics as the penciller of ''Marvel Knights 4'', ''Ultimate Secret'' and '' New Avengers''. He was named in August 2005 as one of Marvel's "Young Guns", a group of artists that, according to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, have the qualities that make "a future superstar penciller". The New Avengers (comics)
The New Avengers is a fictional team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The title has been used for four American comic book series. The first two were written by Brian Michael Bendis and depicted a version of Marvel's premiere superhero team, the Avengers. The third was written by Jonathan Hickman and depicted a group of characters called the Illuminati (formerly introduced in ''New Avengers'' Vol. 1 #7 uly 2005. The fourth is written by Al Ewing and depicts the former scientific terrorist group A.I.M., reformed as "Avengers Idea Mechanics", whose field team has appropriated the name "New Avengers" for itself. Andy Schmidt
Peter Andrewes "Andy" Schmidt is an American comic book editor and writer. He is best known for his work at Marvel and is now editing and writing at other companies. Career At Marvel Schmidt was an Associate Editor and mainly worked on the "Marvel Heroes" group of titles under Tom Brevoort. In 2006 he oversaw the "Annihilation" storyline, a major event involving a range of Marvel's cosmic characters. In June 2008 it was announced that Schmidt had left Marvel and went to work for IDW Publishing, editing ''Star Trek'' and the revival of ''G.I. Joe''. He has also taken up comic writing, with his first series being ''Challenger Deep'' at Boom! Studios, with an announced three-issue comic book adaptation of '' Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan''. Chris Eliopoulos
Chris Eliopoulos (born September 30, 1967) is an American cartoonist and letterer of comic books. Early life Eliopoulos attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City from 1985 to 1989. He majored in graphic design and minored in illustration. He is a resident of River Vale, New Jersey. Career Eliopoulos is known as a prolific letterer, in particular for hand-lettering the first 100 issues of the ongoing ''Savage Dragon'' series, even after much of the comic book industry (including Eliopoulos himself, on other titles) had come to rely on computer-generated fonts for dialogue; this was done at ''Savage Dragon'' creator Erik Larsen's request; Larsen preferring the individual look of hand-lettered dialogue. Mark Millar (; born 24 December 1969) is a Scottish comic book writer and television producer who first came to prominence with a run on the superhero series '' The Authority'', published by DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint. Avengers (comics)
The Avengers are a team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in '' The Avengers'' #1 (cover-dated Sept. 1963), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. Labeled "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", the original Avengers consisted of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor and the Wasp. Captain America was discovered trapped in ice in issue #4, and joined the group after they revived him. The Avengers are an all-star ensemble cast of established superhero characters from the Marvel Comics portfolio.
