The City of Ringwood was a local government area about east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1924 until 1994. History Ringwood was originally part of the Shire of Lillydale, which was incorporated as a road district on 19 September 1856, and as a shire in 1872. Ringwood itself was severed and incorporated as a borough on 22 October 1924. It was proclaimed a city on 19 March 1960. Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room. On 15 December 1994, the City of Ringwood was abolished, and along with the City of Croydon, was merged into the City of Maroondah. Road districts were established in the colony of Victoria, Australia, pursuant to legislation passed in 1853 and were an early form of local government in Victoria. The districts were outside towns, which were instead incorporated either as municipalities or boroughs. The road districts were created between 1853 and 1871. Ringwood North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 24 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Manningham and Maroondah local government areas. Heathmont is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 24 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Heathmont recorded a population of 9,933 at the 2021 census. History Heathmont was originally covered by hedge-to-hedge apple orchards. The City of Maroondah is a local government area in Victoria, Australia in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Maroondah had a population of 117,498 in June 2018. The City of Maroondah was created through the amalgamation the former Cities of Ringwood and Croydon in December 1994. The name 'Maroondah' was taken from two Aboriginal words - meaning "throwing" and "leaf" - symbolising the green environment.
