City Of Preston (Victoria)
The City of Preston was a local government area about north-northeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of , and existed from 1871 until 1994. History Preston's first involvement in local government was part of the Epping Road District in 1854, which also included Northcote. In 1870, the Epping District was amalgamated with the Merriang, Whittlesea, Morang and Woodstock Road Districts, to form a very large Darebin Shire. These entities mostly ended up in the Cities of Broadmeadows and Whittlesea. Preston was first incorporated as the Jika Jika Shire on 8 November 1871, which was renamed Preston on 11 September 1885. Road districts were established in the colony of Victoria, Australia, pursuant to legislation passed in 1853 and were an early form of local government in Victoria. The districts were outside towns, which were instead incorporated either as municipalities or boroughs. The road districts were created between 1853 and 1871. Road districts were established after public meetings to discuss boundaries etc. followed by a petition to the governor. Kingsbury is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Darebin local government area. Kingsbury recorded a population of 3,460 at the 2021 census. The suburb was named after Bruce Kingsbury VC, who died in Papua New Guinea during the Second World War. Residential layout Kingsbury is an established suburb, with the majority of homes established in the 1960s from either weatherboard or brick.
