City Central (TV Series)
''City Central'' is a British television police procedural drama series, written and created by Tony Jordan, that first broadcast on BBC One on 4 April 1998. Described by the ''Radio Times'' as "''Z Cars'' for the 1990s", ''City Central'' follows the everyday lives of officers based at the inner-city Christmas Street police station in Manchester. Three series of ''City Central'' were produced, with the final episode broadcasting on 19 June 2000. Tony Jordan
Tony Jordan (born 21 July 1957) is a British television writer. He was listed as the number one television screenwriter in the United Kingdom by ''Broadcast'' magazine in 2008 and among British broadcasting's top twenty in ''The Stage'' in 2009. For many years, Jordan was lead writer and series consultant for BBC One soap opera ''EastEnders''. Jordan had written for the programme since 1989 including the 2008 single-hander " Pretty Baby...." and is considered to be an 'elder statesman' of the show, for which he has written over 250 episodes . Alibi is a British pay television channel that was launched on 1 November 1997 as UK Arena. It was renamed UK Drama in 2000, and then UKTV Drama in 2004, and assumed its current name on 7 October 2008. History The channel originally launched as part of the new four channel UKTV network on 1 November 1997. The channel, originally named UK Arena, focused on arts programming and was named after the BBC's flagship arts programme ''Arena'' (The BBC, through BBC Worldwide, owning half of UKTV and therefore half the channel). ''Out of the Blue'' is a British television crime drama series, set and filmed in Sheffield, and broadcast on BBC One between 23 May 1995, and 9 September 1996. A total of twelve episodes were broadcast across two series. John Hannah and David Morrissey starred as the main protagonists in each respective series. ''Out of the Blue'' follows a team of detectives at Brazen Gate CID through grisly murder cases, clashes with an already-divided community and through the dramas of their personal lives. ''Waterfront Beat'' is a BBC television police procedural drama series, broadcast between 6 January 1990 and 20 February 1991. The series follows the work of a group of police detectives stationed in the Liverpool docks. The series was created by writer Phil Redmond, famed for his work on Channel 4 soap ''Brookside''. The series was highly regarded as the BBC's first attempt to rival ''The Bill'', following a similar weekly format to the ITV counterpart. ''Z-Cars'' or ''Z Cars'' (pronounced "zed cars") is a British television police procedural series centred on the work of mobile uniformed police in the fictional town of Newtown, based on Kirkby, near Liverpool. Produced by the BBC, it debuted in January 1962 and ran until September 1978. The series differed sharply from earlier police procedurals.
