Retiro, Buenos Aires
Retiro is a ''barrio'' or neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located in the northeast end of the city, Retiro is bordered on the south by the Puerto Madero and San Nicolás, and on the west by the Recoleta. History Towards the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th was installed in the area, an asiento of slaves belonging to the Compagnie de Guinée and South Sea Company, that operated until 1739. In 1800 began the construction of Plaza de Toros del Retiro, a stadium of bullfighting built by the architect Francisco Cañete, that worked until 1819. In the Plaza de Toros took place the battles between the troops of Santiago de Liniers and the British army, occurred during the English invasions of 1806 and 1807. In 1821 was installed the first dissident cemetery of Buenos Aires, located in the vicinity of Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Socorro. Automóvil Club Argentino
The Argentine Automobile Club ( es, Automóvil Club Argentino, ACA) is Argentina's largest automobile association. It was founded on June 11, 1904, by Dalmiro Varela Castex, who in 1892 had imported the country's first registered automobile, a Daimler, and in 1894 its second (a De Dion-Bouton). The ACA oversaw the first recorded Argentine auto racing event, in 1906, and became a member of the International Automotive Federation in 1926. It began to develop of national network of service stations following a 1936 agreement with the state oil concern, YPF. Offering its membership cartographic, roadside assistance, insurance and other services, the ACA was inducted into the International Tourism Alliance in 1952. Maserati 4CL
The Maserati 4CL and its derived sister model the Maserati 4CLT are single-seat Open-wheel racing, open-wheel Grand Prix motor racing, Grand Prix racing cars that were designed and built by Maserati. The 4CL was introduced at the beginning of the 1939 season, as a rival to the Alfa Romeo 158 and various English Racing Automobiles, ERA models in the voiturette class of international Grand Prix motor racing. Although racing ceased during World War II, the 4CL was one of the front running models at the resumption of racing in the late 1940s. Experiments with two-stage supercharger, supercharging and tubular chassis construction eventually led to the introduction of the revised 4CLT model in 1948. 1941 Buenos Aires Grand Prix
The Buenos Aires Grand Prix, (also known as the Premio Ciudad de Buenos Aires) was a Formula Libre handicap race, organized by the ACA (Automóvil Club Argentino) and held at the Retiro Circuit on 23 November 1941. Entries were open for the national mechanic "Mecánica Nacional" class, based on series cars (Ford, Chevrolet, Hudson) and the "Coches Especiales" Grand Prix cars. Racing started with a preliminary Mecánica Nacional class elimination round (best five qualifying for the GP) which was won by Mario P. Chiozza (Bi-Motor Mercury). The class group received a one-minute handicap at the start of the GP main event. The GP class included Riganti's new Maserati 8CL (chassis 3034) that was entered in the 1940 Indianapolis.
