Tazewell County () is a county in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 135,394. Its county seat and largest city is Pekin. It is pronounced with a short "a", to rhyme with "razz" rather than "raze." Tazewell County is part of the Peoria, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. South Pekin is a village in Tazewell County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,146 at the 2010 census and is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is located in Sections 27 and 34 of Cincinnati Township, which was formed in 1850. South Pekin owes its origin to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, as a railway station. Settlement in the South Pekin area began in the 1820s with the first arrival of white settlers to what would soon become Tazewell County. Pekin Municipal Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located four nautical miles (4.6 mi, 7.4 km) south of the central business district of Pekin, a city in Tazewell County, Illinois, United States.
