Cill Na Martra GFC is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Kilnamartyra, Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Cork GAA and Muskerry divisional boards. The club fields teams in Gaelic football only, with no hurling played. The club is the home club of Noel O'Leary who won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal with Cork in 2010. History Football has been played in the parish of Cill na Martra in the Múscraí Gaeltacht since the foundation of the GAA in 1884 and before. The first recorded victory of the club occurred in 1887 in a 21 a side match versus the team of Ballinagree. From then on until the re-establishment of the club in 1978, football had been played on an irregular basis. Kilnamartyra ( , meaning ''church of the martyr'' or ''church of the relic'') is a village and civil parish in County Cork, Ireland. It is located around half-way between Killarney and Macroom. The parish is a kilometre from the L3402 local road which joins the N22 road, three kilometres away. Historically its townlands were part of the barony of Muskerry West. The local national school is called ''Scoil Lachtain Naofa''. It is a ''gaelscoil'' and is named after Saint Lachtain, the patron saint of Cill na Martra. Muskerry GAA
Muskerry GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division located in the middle region of County Cork, Ireland. It is one of eight divisions of Cork GAA County Board. The division includes clubs from areas to the west of Cork city stretching to the county bounds with Kerry. Its name is derived from the ancient Gaelic kingdom of Múscraige which, following the Norman conquest, now encompasses the baronies of Muskerry West and Muskerry East. These baronies, or half-baronies, include towns such as Macroom, Ballincollig, and Ballingeary. Muskerry GAA is bordered by Carrigdhoun GAA and Carbery GAA divisions to the south and by Duhallow GAA to the north. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Noel O'Leary
Noel O'Leary (born 5 May 1982) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Kilnamartyra, County Cork, O Leary arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his debut in the 2000 National Football League. O'Leary went on to play a key part for over a decade, and won one All-Ireland medal, three Munster medals and four National Football League medals(1 division 2). He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. O'Leary represented the Munster inter-provincial team on one occasion, when he captained the team in an unsuccessful campaign. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. The Cork Under-21 Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition in County Cork, Ireland for players under the age of 21. Clubs affiliated to Cork board compete to win this championship. All eight of the divisions in Cork organize their own championship. The divisional winners compete against each other to decide the county title. The Cork Intermediate A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Bon Secours Cork County Intermediate A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork IAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the second tier intermediate clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fourth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Intermediate Championship was introduced in 1909 as a competition that would bridge the gap between the senior grade and the junior grade.
