''Chung Kuo, Cina'' (, "Names of China, Zhongguo, China") is a 1972 Italian Documentary film, documentary directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. Antonioni was invited to China by its government to film the documentary, but the result was subsequently attacked as slanderous by Chinese authorities and the Italian Communist Party. Michelangelo Antonioni
Michelangelo Antonioni (, ; 29 September 1912 – 30 July 2007) was an Italian filmmaker. He is best known for directing his "trilogy on modernity and its discontents"—''L'Avventura'' (1960), ''La Notte'' (1961), and ''L'Eclisse'' (1962)—as well as the English-language film ''Blow-up'' (1966), all considered masterpieces of world cinema. His films have been described as "enigmatic and intricate mood pieces" that feature elusive plots, striking visual composition, and a preoccupation with modern landscapes. Rey Chow
Rey Chow (born 1957) is a cultural critic, specializing in 20th-century Chinese fiction and film and postcolonial theory. Educated in Hong Kong and the United States, she has taught at several major American universities, including Brown University. Chow is currently Anne Firor Scott Professor of Literature in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. Chow's writing challenges assumptions in many different scholarly conversations including those about literature, film, visual media, sexuality and gender, ethnicity, and cross-cultural politics. The Italian Communist Party ( it, Partito Comunista Italiano, PCI) was a communist political party in Italy. The PCI was founded as ''Communist Party of Italy'' on 21 January 1921 in Livorno by seceding from the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). Amadeo Bordiga, Antonio Gramsci, and Nicola Bombacci led the split. Outlawed during the Fascist regime, the party played a major role in the Italian resistance movement. It changed its name in 1943 to PCI and became the second largest political party of Italy after World War II, attracting the support of about a third of the vote share during the 1970s. Andrea Barbato (7 March 1934 – 12 February 1996) was an Italian journalist, politician, author, broadcaster, and screenwriter. Barbato was born in Rome. He started his career in journalism in 1956 working as a correspondent for the BBC. He also started writing for periodicals and newspapers, including ''L'espresso'' and '' Il Giorno'', in 1968 he was hired by RAI and worked as speaker for the twelve o'clock news edition at telegiornale. In 1971 he began working for '' La Stampa'' and was later appointed deputy editor of ''La Repubblica''.
