Christopher Hawkins (High Peak MP)
Christopher James Hawkins (born 26 November 1937) is a British politician. He was a British Conservative Party Member of Parliament for High Peak constituency in Derbyshire from the 1983 general election until he stood down in 1992. Life Hawkins was born in Saffron Walden and educated at Bristol Grammar School and the University of Bristol from which he graduated with a BA (Hons) in Economics. From 1959 to 1966, he worked as an economist for Courtaulds, with periods of secondment in Nigeria and Tunisia. Hawkins then joined the Economics Department of the University of Southampton where he was successively Lecturer and Senior Lecturer. In his ''Who’s Who'' entry, Hawkins listed reading, music and sailing as recreations. Sailing was more than a recreation for Hawkins designed several yachts. High Peak (UK Parliament Constituency)
High Peak is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Robert Largan, a Conservative. The constituency is in north west Derbyshire and based in the heart of the Peak District, including the towns of Buxton, Glossop and New Mills. Since the 1966 general election, the seat has been somewhat of a bellwether, with only three exceptions: at the February and October 1974 general elections the seat was won by the Conservative Party when the Labour Party won the most seats nationally, and at the 2017 general election when the seat was won by Labour but the Conservatives won the most seats nationally.
