Christine Silver
Christine Silver (17 December 1883 – 23 November 1960) was a British stage, film and television actress, and a playwright. Early life Christine Isie Silver was born in 1883 (some sources give 1884), in London, the daughter of Arthur Silver and Isabella Charlotte Walenn Silver. Her father was a textile designer. Her maternal grandfather was scientist William Henry Walenn, and her uncles included singer and actor Charles Walenn and composer Gerald Walenn. Career Silver began acting as a teenager, working on the London stage by 1902. Arthur Silver
Arthur Silver (1853–1896) was a designer and founder of the Silver Studio. He was born in Reading in 1853. His grandfather had been in the cabinet-making business and his father, James Silver, was an upholsterer. Education In 1869 Arthur attended Reading School of Art, which had been founded by Sir Henry Cole with the aim of training designers in both art and industry. He won a prize for the elementary section of the Introduction in Art course. After leaving art school Arthur Silver was apprenticed to furniture designer Henry William Batley. Marriage and Family Life In 1878 at the age of 25, Arthur Silver married Isabella Walenn. Isabella came from a large and artistically creative family. Sir Mark Beresford Russell Grant-Sturgis KCB (born Sturgis; 10 July 1884 – 29 April 1949) was a British civil servant who served as Assistant Under-Secretary for Ireland. Grant-Sturgis was the son of Julian Sturgis and Mary Maude Beresford, daughter of Colonel Marcus Wylly de la Poer Beresford. Mary Beresford was descendant from William Wylly, the Chief Justice of St. Vincent in the early 19th Century, and Matilda Mathews, the daughter of American Loyalist David Mathews, the Loyalist Mayor of New York City during the American Revolutionary War and descendant of the Dutch American Schuyler family. Julian Sturgis
Julian Russell Sturgis (21 October 1848 – 13 April 1904) was a British-American novelist, poet, librettist and lyricist. Educated at Eton College, Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, Sturgis distinguished himself in Eton's sporting activities and rowed for Balliol for three years. He then played association football as an amateur, from 1872 to 1876, and was the first foreigner to play in, and the first to win, an FA Cup Final. Sturgis qualified as a barrister, but he embarked on a writing career in 1874, producing novels, poetry, plays and libretto, libretti.
