Christine Silberhorn
Christine Silberhorn (born 19 April 1974) is a German physicist specialising in quantum optics and a full professor at the Paderborn University. In 2011, Silberhorn was awarded the Leibniz Prize and was the youngest recipient of the 2.5 million Euro prize at that time. Education Born in Nürnberg, Germany, Silberhorn studied mathematics and physics at Erlangen University (1993–1999) and completed her Ph.D. in 2003, with a dissertation in quantum information science. She did postdoctoral work at Clarendon Laboratory of Oxford University and was a Junior Research Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, Wolfson College in Oxford in 2003–2004. In 2005 she joined the Max Planck Research Group "Optics, Information and Photonics" (now the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light) as the head of the junior research group "integrated quantum optics". Quantum Networks
Quantum networks form an important element of quantum computing and quantum communication systems. Quantum networks facilitate the transmission of information in the form of quantum bits, also called qubits, between physically separated quantum processors. The Werner von Siemens Ring (in German orthography, Werner-von-Siemens-Ring) is one of the highest awards for technical sciences in Germany. It has been awarded from 1916 to 1941 and since 1952 about every three years by the foundation ''Stiftung Werner-von-Siemens-Ring''. Hong–Ou–Mandel Effect
The Hong–Ou–Mandel effect is a two-photon interference effect in quantum optics that was demonstrated in 1987 by three physicists from the University of Rochester: Chung Ki Hong (홍정기), Zheyu Ou (区泽宇), and Leonard Mandel. The effect occurs when two identical single-photon waves enter a 1:1 beam splitter, one in each input port. When the temporal overlap of the photons on the beam splitter is perfect, the two photons will always exit the beam splitter together in the same output mode, meaning that there is zero chance that they will exit separately with one photon in each of the two outputs giving a coincidence event. The European Research Council (ERC) is a public body for funding of scientific and technological research conducted within the European Union (EU).
