Christian Lee Novetzke
Christian Lee Novetzke is an American Indologist and scholar of Religious Studies and South Asian Studies. He is Professor of International Studies and Comparative Religion at the University of Washington, where he holds an endowed professorship from the College of Arts and Sciences. His areas of interest include Indian cultural history and the theorization of religion. As an author, he has also been largely collected by libraries. At the University of Washington, Novetzke serves as Director of the Center for Global Studies, as well as Associate Director of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. Education and career Novetzke received a B.A. from Macalester College in 1993 and an M.T.S. in Religious Studies from Harvard University in 1996. In 2003, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Columbia University. Indology, also known as South Asian studies, is the academic study of the history and cultures, languages, and literature of the Indian subcontinent, and as such is a subset of Asian studies. The term ''Indology'' (in German, ''Indologie'') is often associated with German scholarship, and is used more commonly in departmental titles in German and continental European universities than in the anglophone academy. In the Netherlands, the term ''Indologie'' was used to designate the study of Indian history and culture in preparation for colonial service in the Dutch East Indies. ''Mid-Day'' (stylised as mid-day) is a morning daily Indian compact newspaper owned by Jagran Prakashan Limited. Editions in various languages were published in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. In 2011, the Delhi and Bangalore editions were closed down. In 2014, Jagran Prakashan shut down the mid-day Pune edition as well.
