Christian Kieckens
Christian Kieckens (24 January 1951 – 11 May 2020) was a Belgian architect and also photographer and lecturer. Kieckens was born in Aalst. In 1974 he graduated from the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture in Ghent. He won de Godecharleprijs for Architecture (1981) and the for Architecture (1999). From 2002 he had his own company, Christian Kieckens Architects, based in Brussels. He also taught at the Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen. He died in Brussels. ''De Standaard'' (meaning ''The Standard'' in English) is a Flemish daily newspaper published in Belgium by Mediahuis (formerly Corelio and VUM). It was traditionally a Christian-Democratic paper, associated with the Christian-Democratic and Flemish Party, and in opposition to the Socialist Flemish daily ''De Morgen''. Aalst (; french: Alost, ; Brabantian dialect, Brabantian: ''Oilsjt'') is a City status in Belgium, city and Municipalities in Belgium, municipality on the Dender River, northwest from Brussels in the Flemish Region, Flemish Provinces of Belgium, province of East Flanders. Prix Godecharle
The Godecharle prize or the Godecharle contest is a contest for art students, the winners of which are granted a scholarship allocated by the Godecharle Foundation. The conditions for participation are that contestants are less than 35 years old, of Belgian nationality, or members of a country of the European Community who have lived in Belgium for at least five years. Napoléon Godecharle (1803-1875) created the Godecharle Foundation on the 15th of March 1871 in remembrance of his father, the prominent sculptor Gilles-Lambert Godecharle and with the aim of promoting the education and the career of young Belgian artists, either sculptors, painters or architects. To this end, the Godecharle foundation organizes every other year a contest better-known under its French name, the ''Prix Godecharle'' (the 'Godecharleprijs' in Dutch).
