Christian Bonnet
Christian Bonnet (14 June 1921 – 7 April 2020) was a French politician. Biography Christian was the oldest son of Pierre Bonnet and Suzanne Delebecque. He had two younger brothers: Didier and Jean-Claude. His grandfather, Charles Bonnet, married Claire Vaillant de Guélis, related to François-Michel le Tellier, Marquis de Louvois. He graduated from Sciences Po and earned a doctorate in law. He was a member of the Popular Republican Movement, then of the Independent Republicans, and finally the Union for French Democracy. He was chairman of the supervisory commission of Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations from 1971 to 1972. He was appointed Minister of the Interior on 30 March 1977, following the resignation of Michel Poniatowski. His notable events in office include the arrest of Jacques Mesrine and the 1980 Paris synagogue bombing. Gaston Defferre
Gaston Defferre (14 September 1910 – 7 May 1986) was a French Socialist politician. He served as mayor of Marseille for 33 years until his death in 1986. He was minister for overseas territories in Guy Mollet’s socialist government in 1956–1957. His main achievement was to establish the framework used to grant independence to France’s African territories. As the Socialist candidate for president in 1969, he received only 5 percent of the vote. He was much more successful in promoting François Mitterrand as leader of the Socialist Party (''Parti Socialiste''; PS) in 1971. He held a series of ministerial portfolios after the Socialist victory in 1981, especially as minister of state for the interior and decentralization. 1980 Paris Synagogue Bombing
The 1980 Paris synagogue bombing (also called the Rue Copernic attack) occurred on 3 October 1980 when the rue Copernic synagogue in Paris, France was bombed. The attack killed four and wounded 46 people. The bombing took place in the evening near the beginning of Shabbat, during the Jewish holiday of Sim'hat Torah. It was the first deadly attack against Jewish people in France since the end of the Second World War. The Federation of National and European Action (FANE) claimed responsibility, though it was later determined that a Zionist infiltrator of the FANE falsely claimed responsibility for the attack. The police investigation later concluded that Palestinian nationalists were likely responsible. Jacques Mesrine
Jacques Mesrine (; 28 December 1936 – 2 November 1979) was a French criminal responsible for numerous murders, bank robberies, burglaries, and kidnappings in France, the US, and Canada. Mesrine repeatedly escaped from prison and made international headlines during a final period as a fugitive when his exploits included trying to kidnap the judge who had previously sentenced him. An aptitude for disguise earned him the moniker "The Man of a Thousand Faces" and enabled him to remain at large while receiving massive publicity as a wanted man. Mesrine was widely seen as an anti-establishment Robin Hood figure. In keeping with his charismatic image, he was rarely without a glamorous female companion.
