Christelijke Encyclopedie
The is a publication by the company J.H. Kok from Kampen, the Netherlands. The first edition appeared in five volumes from 1926 to 1929 with a supplement in 1931, under the redaction of the reformed theologian Frederik Willem Grosheide (1881–1972, father of the later secretary of state Hans Grosheide.) A second edition, in six volumes, followed from 1956 to 1961. Both editions are reference works for the Dutch Reformed Church. In 2005 a third edition appeared in three volumes under the same title, but the word ''Christian'' is treated from an ecumenical perspective. The authors of the latest edition include Jan Bank, Paul Cliteur, Bart Jan Spruyt, Gert Schutte Gerrit Jan Schutte (24 May 1939 – 25 January 2022) was a Dutch politician and teacher. Kampen, Overijssel
Kampen () is a city and municipality in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. A member of the former Hanseatic League, it is located at the lower reaches of the river IJssel. The municipality of Kampen had a population of in and covers an area of . Kampen is located in the North West of Overijssel and is the largest city in this region. The city of Kampen itself has around 37,000 inhabitants. Kampen has one of the best preserved old town centres of the Netherlands, including remains of the ancient city wall (of which three gates are still standing) and numerous churches. Religion in the Netherlands was historically dominated by Christianity between the 10th and 20th centuries. In the late 19th century, roughly 60% of the population was Calvinist and 35% was Catholic. Since then, there has been a significant decline in both Catholic and Protestant Christianity, with Protestantism declining to such a degree that Catholicism became the foremost form of the Christian religion. The majority of the Dutch population is secular. A relatively sizable Muslim minority also exists. In 2015, Statistics Netherlands, the government institute that gathers statistical information about the Netherlands, found that 50.1% of the adult (18+) population declared no religious affiliation. Christians comprised 43.8% of the total population; by denomination, Catholicism was 23.7%, the members of the Protestant Church of the Netherlands were 15.5%, and members of other Christian denominations were 4.6%. Kars Veling (born 30 June 1948) is a retired Dutch politician and philosopher. A member of the Reformed Political League (GPV) and later Christian Union (CU), he served as Leader of the Christian Union from 2001 to 2002. Education Veling followed the HBS-B education in Groningen, the town where he was born. After finishing the HBS, he studied Mathematics, physics and astronomy at the University of Groningen, where he received his candidate exam (comparable with a bachelor's degree). After that he studies philosophy and promoted at the faculty of social sciences of the University of Leiden in 1982. Career After finishing his study in Groningen in 1969, Veling started as a teacher in mathematics for five years in Groningen. Frederik Willem Grosheide
Frederik Willem Grosheide (25 November 1881 – 5 March 1972) was a Dutch New Testament scholar. He served as Professor of New Testament at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Grosheide wrote the original commentary on 1 Corinthians in the '' New International Commentary on the New Testament'' series. He also wrote a number of commentaries in the ''Korte Verklaring'' series: Acts, First and Second Corinthians, Hebrews, and the epistles of James and Jude. George Harink suggests that, along with G. Gerrit Jan Schutte (24 May 1939 – 25 January 2022) was a Dutch politician and teacher. A member of the defunct Reformed Political League (GPV) now merged into the Christian Union (CU), he served as party leader from 1981 to 2001. He would work in the same function for the municipalities of Schoonhoven, Elst en Nieuwpoort. Dr. Bastian Jan "Bart Jan" Spruyt (born 29 January 1964, in Ridderkerk) is a Dutch historian, journalist and conservative writer. Academic background Spruyt grew up in Rotterdam, and studied history, theology and law at the Utrecht University and Leiden University. He is a practising Calvinist of the ''Hersteld Hervormde Kerk'' denomination (Restored Reformed Church). Spruyt obtained his M.A. in Renaissance and Reformation History in 1990 from Utrecht with the highest honors.
