Christian Metal
Christian metal, also known as white metal, Jesus metal or heavenly metal, is heavy metal music distinguished by its Christian themed song lyrics and the dedication of the band members to Christianity. Christian metal is typically performed by professed Christians, principally for Christians and is often produced and distributed through various Christian networks. Christian metal bands exist in most of the subgenres of heavy metal music, and the only common link among most Christian metal bands are the lyrics. The Christian themes are often melded with the subjects of the genre the band is rooted in, regularly providing a Christian take on the subject matter. It has been argued that the marginal yet transnational Christian metal subculture provides its core members with an alternative religious expression and Christian identity, and that the music serves the purpose of offering a positive message through lyrical content. This may not necessarily show a direct connection or re ...

This "first wave" included bands such as Venom (band), Venom, Bathory (band), Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem (band), Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal (band), Immortal, Emperor (band), Emperor, Satyricon (band), Satyricon and Gorgoroth. Unblack Metal
Unblack metal (also known as Christian black metal) is a religious philosophy and subgenre within black metal, inheriting several characteristics of it, such as the melody, the lyrics and the aesthetics ( corpse paint), whose artists either directly oppose the Satanism prevalent in most black metal, or promote Christianity in their lyrics and imagery. Unblack metal artists are controversial within the black metal subculture, because black metal's pioneers, especially those of the Second Wave, were anti-Christian. It is also suggested that Christianity contradicts black metal's dark nature and the individualistic and misanthropic ideals of many bands. The exact beginning of the unblack metal movement is disputed. The Australian band Horde's 1994 studio album ''Hellig Usvart'' brought the concept and the term ''holy unblack metal'' (a word play on Darkthrone's slogan "unholy black metal" used on the albums ''A Blaze in the Northern Sky'' and ''Under a Funeral Moon'') to media atte ...

Horde (band)
Horde (originally called Beheadoth) is the unblack metal solo project of Australian musician Jayson Sherlock, formerly of Mortification and Paramaecium. In 1994, the only studio album, ''Hellig Usvart,'' was released on Nuclear Blast Records. With a session line-up, Horde played live in 2006 in Norway and in 2010 in Finland and Germany. ''Hellig Usvart'' proved to be a seminal release for the unblack metal movement, and the album was highly controversial in the secular black metal scene at the time it was released. History Sherlock recorded one studio album, ''Hellig Usvart'' ("Holy Unblack"), under the pseudonym "Anonymous" (a possible play on "Euronymous", Mayhem guitarist), releasing it on Nuclear Blast in 1994, followed by a later re-release by Rowe Productions. The album title is Norwegian, a fact which led many to believe, while Sherlock was still anonymous, that Horde originated from Norway, a fact backed up by the poor production quality on the album, considered to be ...
