Christ Apostolic Church International is a Pentecostal Evangelical church which traces its existence from the ministry of the late Apostle Peter Anim, the originator of Ghanaian Pentecostalism. It had a humble beginning as a prayer group started in 1917 at Asamankese, but later received affiliation with Apostolic Church Bradford. History Peter Anim Newman began a healing ministry in 1917 under the name Faith Tabernacle as a result of healing received from acute stomach upset and guinea worms infections after he read a magazine published by Faith Tabernacle USA called ''Sword of Spirit''. In 1931, Anim, through a fellow Faith Tabernacle minister in Nigeria, David O. Odubanjo, contacted missionaries of the Apostolic Church of Bradford, to pay his team a visit. Rev George Perfect, a missionary sent by Apostolic Church Bradford to Nigeria, passed by Asamankese in Ghana and stayed with the Faith Tabernacle church for two weeks. Peter Anim Newman
Apostle Peter Kwaku Mensah Newman Anim (also known as Kwaku Manasseh) was born on February 4, 1890 to Simon Appiagyei and Hannah Lartebea of Boso in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is credited as the originator of Classical Pentecostalism in Ghana. His intense interest in a magazine called The Sword of the Spirit, published through correspondence, with its editor, Pastor A. Clark, founder of the Faith Tabernacle Church, Philadelphia led him into receiving healing from a chronic stomach disorder and guinea worm infestation miraculously through prayer, a new experience from his Presbyterian upbringing. He therefore embraced the teachings of divine healing, having tested their efficacy by obtaining healing himself, he sought to inculcate this in a prayer group he formed in Asamankese. Osu, Accra
Located about east of the central business district, Osu is a neighborhood in central Accra, Ghana. It is locally known as the "West End" of Accra. Asamankese
Asamankese is a town in south Ghana and is the capital of West Akim Municipal District, a district in the Eastern Region, Ghana, Eastern Region of south Ghana. Asamankese has a 2013 settlement population of approximately 39,435 people. Asamankese is on the main highway to Kumasi and Accra in the interior. History The modern city of Asamankese was founded and occupied by the Akwamu. The Akwamus moved south and eastward from Dormaa around the 14th century to Twifo-Heman, North West Cape Coast. The move was commercially motivated and settled at the Twifo-Heman forest in the later part of the 16th century. Akwamus are Akans, and belonged to the Aduana family who are blood brothers of Asumennya, Dormaa and Kumawu. James McKeown (missionary)
Reverend James McKeown (12 September 1900 – 4 May 1989) was an Irish missionary who spent considerable time in the Gold Coast, now Ghana. He was the first Pentecostal missionary to come to Ghana from the United Kingdom and was instrumental in the establishment of The Apostolic Church - Ghana. In the 1950s he founded the Church of Pentecost, the church with the biggest denomination in Ghana and which has branches all over the world. He is considered a "pioneer of Ghanaian Pentecostalism". Missionary work James McKeown arrived in the Gold Coast on 4 March 1937 to begin missionary work as the resident missionary of the Apostolic Church of Bradford after having left the United Kingdom for the then Gold Coast on a boat in February 1937. The Church Of Pentecost
The Church of Pentecost is a Pentecostal denomination that originates from Ghana. The Church currently has a presence in more than 135 countries globally. Its current Chairman, who happens to be its highest officer worldwide, is Apostle Eric Nyamekye. History The church has its origins in a British mission of Rev. James McKeown (missionary) in Ghana in 1937. In 1953, The Church was founded as Gold Coast Apostolistic Church. Upon the country's attainment of independence in 1957, the name changed to the Ghana Apostolic Church.
