Chris Stevens (rower)
Chris Stevens (born 12 February 1946) is an Australian former national representative rowing (sport), rower. He was three times a national champion in sweep-oared boats and once as a sculler. He competed in the Rowing at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's coxless pair, men's coxless pair event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Stevens' attended Sydney Church of England Grammar School where he learned to row. His senior club rowing was initially from the Colleagues Rowing Club, a new Sydney club of the time. His later club rowing was from the Sydney Rowing Club. In 1966, 1967 and 1970 he was seated in New South Wales state eights which contested the Kings Cup at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. The 1967 New South Wales crew was victorious. Drummoyne Rowing Club
Drummoyne Rowing Club, formed in 1919 in Sydney, Australia is one of four rowing clubs on Iron Cove in Sydney Harbour. It has occupied its current site at Sister's Bay, Drummoyne since its foundation. The DRC is a community based competitive and recreational rowing club with a long history in welcoming women members. It offers programs at club and master's level and leases its facilities for some schools' programs. History The Sydney Morning Herald reported on 7 March 1896 that a committee was appointed to form Drummoyne Rowing Club. Nothing progressed until 20 January 1919 when again a meeting was held on forming a club. Kim Mackney
Kim Mackney (born 5 February 1949) is an Australian former representative rower. He competed in the men's coxless pair event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. From school until the national elite representative level and onto a long world-class masters career, Mackney rowed competitively for over fifty years. He can be credited with salvaging and re-establishing the Glebe Rowing Club in Sydney after its 1992 demise. Club and state rowing Mackney's was introduced to rowing by his father Walter Mackney who had stroked the victorious New South Wales King's Cup crew of 1935 and the Australian men's eight at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Mackney attended Newington College from 1961 until 1966. During his long Sydney club career Kim Mackney rowed from most of the clubs on the harbour. He started at Mosman Rowing Club and then had thirteen seasons at Sydney Rowing Club from where he made national representation. 1966 World Rowing Championships
The 1966 World Rowing Championships was the second time that world championships in rowing were held. The regatta was held from 8 to 11 September at Lake Bled in Bled, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. There were 613 rowers from 32 countries who competed in the seven Olympic boat classes. Marketing and advertising for the event were handled by Cesar Lüthi. The Australian rowing history website has the following commentary: "The superbly organized regatta was held on the magnificent lake at Bled: a fitting setting for the second world championships." Prior to the 4th World Rowing Championships in 1974, only men competed. Background Bled and the German cities of Essen and Duisburg had competed for the right to host the second World Rowing Championships. At a FISA meeting in August 1963, held in conjunction with the 1963 European Rowing Championships for men, the decision in favour of Bled was made. Peter Dickson (rower)
Peter Dickson (27 August 1945 – 27 June 2008) was an Australian representative rower. He was a four time national champion who won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Dickson was born in Sydney and attended the Shore School where he rowed in the Shore first VIII in 1962 and 1963. He played rugby at school, was selected in the GPS first XV selection side in 1963 as a second rower. He later played first grade rugby for the Gordon Rugby Club in Sydney. His senior rowing was done at the Leichhardt Rowing Club. In the five seasons from 1964 to 1968 he was selected in New South Wales state eights which contested the King's Cup at the Australian Interstate Regatta. Those New South Wales crew were national champions in 1965, 1967 and 1968. Sydney Rowing Club
Sydney Rowing Club is the oldest rowing club in New South Wales, Australia formed in 1870. It has occupied its current site on Port Jackson's Parramatta River at Abbotsford Point since 1874. The club has a focus on its high performance and elite rowing programs and as of the 2021 Olympic Games, sixty-eight rowers from the club had competed at the Olympic Games rowing in one hundred and two of the seats raced by Australian Olympic crews. Over one hundred club members have achieved national selection. John Ranch
John Raymond "JR" Ranch (born 16 November 1940) is an Australian former rower, twice a national champion and a silver medal winner at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Early life Ranch was born in Bondi, New South Wales and moved to Orange, New South Wales at four years of age when his father became the licensee of the Tourist Hotel there. He was schooled at the Santa Maria Convent school and then at De La Salle College, Orange. He attended Sydney University from 1959, and joined the Sydney University Boat Club as well as rowing in surf boats at the Bondi Surf Club. Rowing career From the Sydney University Boat Club Ranch was chosen to represent Australia in a Trans-Tasman regatta against New Zealand in 1965 rowing in the four seat of the men's eight.
