Chris Newman (musician)
Christopher Lynn Newman (July 11, 1953 - May 9, 2021) was an American musician from Oregon. In 2007, he was inducted to the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. Early life Christopher Newman was born on 11 July 1953 in Longview, Washington. Career Newman spent most of his musical career in Portland, Oregon, leading bands such as Napalm Beach, Snow Bud and the Flower People (formed 1986), Boo Frog, and the Chris Newman Deluxe Combo. Newman played frequently in and around Portland and Seattle beginning in the 1970s, and was known for his intense blues- and psychedelic-influenced guitar leads and vocal stylings ranging from operatic to powerhouse bellows. Oregon Music Hall Of Fame
The Oregon Music Hall of Fame is an award honoring musicians from the U.S. state of Oregon. The first induction ceremony took place on October 13, 2007. History The Oregon Music Hall of Fame was conceived of in the 1990s by a group called the Oregon Music Coalition. Over the years they elected 50 Oregon musicians and bands to the hall of fame. The group eventually disbanded, but in 2004, the hall of fame was revitalized and a group reformed as the Oregon Music Hall of Fame non-profit organization. The original inductees will continue to be honored, while new nominees will include musicians, producers, disc jockeys, and promoters. The group plans to build an Oregon Music Hall of Fame building that will house music exhibits and memorabilia and host music education seminars. The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. Longview is a city in Cowlitz County, Washington, United States. It is the principal city of the Longview, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Cowlitz County. Napalm Beach
Napalm Beach is an American rock band formed in Portland, Oregon. They are considered early innovators of the grunge sound. Nicholas Pell, writing for the ''Portland Mercury'' said "a huge influence on the grunge and alternative rock of the 1990s, Napalm Beach never had the name recognition of other Portland bands like Poison Idea or the Wipers." Napalm Beach shared the stage with bands such as X, Public Image Ltd., Joan Jett, Johnny Thunders, Gun Club, Bad Brains, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Dead Moon, and Poison Idea. Grunge
Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is an alternative rock genre and subculture that emerged during the in the American Pacific Northwest state of Washington, particularly in Seattle and nearby towns. Grunge fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, but without punk's structure and speed. The genre featured the distorted electric guitar sound used in both genres, although some bands performed with more emphasis on one or the other. Like these genres, grunge typically uses electric guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals. Grunge also incorporates influences from indie rock bands such as Sonic Youth.
