Chris Kirby is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Newfoundland whose music incorporates jazz, funk, R&B, and pop. Career Kirby was a software engineer prior to becoming a musician. He has performed both as a solo act and accompanied by his band, "The Marquee," which features Craig Follett on bass, Mark Marshall on drums, and Chad Murphy on guitar. Kirby has stated that he "loves female singers – that's where I get my influences. Jazz

Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. It de-emphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Contemporary R&B
Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music. The genre features a distinctive record production style, drum machine-backed rhythms, pitch corrected vocals, and a smooth, lush style of vocal arrangement.
