Chongqing Natural History Museum
The Chongqing Natural History Museum () is a natural history museum in Chongqing, China. The museum founded in 1944, originally as the Western Museum of China. It changed its name in 1981. The museum has a collection of about 70,000 specimens covering animals, minerals, paleontology, plants, and Stone Age period wares. It includes several dinosaur skeletons from the Sichuan Province. especially since the 1970s from around Zigong. The exhibits include the skeletons of the Omeisaurus Zigongensis dinosaur and the Tuojiang stegosaur. The museum also publishes books on dinosaurs. The original museum building was in the Beibei District. A new museum building in the Yuzhong District was under construction as of 2013, consisting of six exhibition halls and covering an area of 14.4 hectares. Tuojiang
The Tuo River (; pinyin: Tuó Jiāng) is -long river in Sichuan province of southern China. The Tuo River is one of the major tributaries of the upper Yangtze River (''Chang Jiang''). Yuzhong District
Yuzhong District () is the central district and heart of Chongqing municipality. It is the capital of the municipality and is also the political, economical, and entertainment center of the city of Chongqing. Located in the central portion of Yuzhong is the Jiefangbei CBD, a leading business and financial center of western China. Surrounded on three sides by water, Yuzhong is effectively a peninsula between the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers. Beibei District () is a district in the Chongqing municipality, People's Republic of China. A satellite town in the north of central Chongqing, Beibei got its name because of the huge rock that extends to the middle of Jialing River, and is known for its historical culture in the period of the Republic of China. Stegosaur
Stegosauria is a group of herbivorous ornithischian dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic and early Cretaceous periods. Stegosaurian fossils have been found mostly in the Northern Hemisphere, predominantly in what is now North America, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia. Their geographical origins are unclear; the earliest unequivocal stegosaurian, ''Huayangosaurus taibaii'', lived in China. Stegosaurians were armored dinosaurs (thyreophorans). Originally, they did not differ much from more primitive members of that group, being small, low-slung, running animals protected by armored scutes. An early evolutionary innovation was the development of spikes as defensive weapons. ''Omeisaurus'' (meaning "Omei lizard") is a genus of sauropod dinosaur from the Middle Jurassic Period (Bathonian-Callovian stage) of what is now China. Its name comes from Mount Emei, where it was discovered in the lower Shaximiao Formation of Sichuan Province. Like most sauropods, ''Omeisaurus'' was herbivorous and large. Zigong (, ), formed by the merger of the two former towns of Ziliujing (Tzuliuching, literally "self-flow well") and Gongjing (Kungching, literally "offering well"), is a prefecture-level city in Sichuan, southwestern China.
