Choiseul District
Choiseul District is one of the 10 districts (formerly called quarter) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. Located on the southwestern side of the island, the district is home to 6,130 people, according to the 2019 census. The seat of Choiseul District is the town of Choiseul. History The Choiseul District/Quarter was originally known as ''Anse Citron'', and an independent parish was established in 1765. In 1769 a census was done and recorded 75 whites, 25 free coloured, 512 negroes and 69 estates in Choiseul. However, most activity was originally in the River Dorée area, south-east of Choiseul. An Anglican church at River Dorée was built in 1846 and the first school was opened in 1848. The area was primarily run by English plantation owners and by the end of the 19th century the population was approximately 4,000. The name ''Quarters'' or ''Quartiers'' originally came from the French period in Saint Lucia (Sainte Lucie in French). Saint Lucia ( acf, Sent Lisi, french: Sainte-Lucie) is an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra, names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs, two Amerindian peoples. 2021 Saint Lucian General Election
General elections were held in Saint Lucia on 26 July 2021, having been constitutionally required by 12 October 2021. Voters elected all 17 members of the House of Assembly. The result was a victory for the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party, which won 13 of the 17 seats in the House, while the ruling United Workers Party lost nine of its eleven seats. It was the fourth consecutive election in which the incumbent government lost. Balembouche
Balembouche (also called ''Balenbouche'') is the original name of a historic 18th-century sugar plantation, Balenbouche Estate, which is now a guesthouse, designated heritage site and organic farm on the island of Saint Lucia. It is located on the south west coast of the island, near Bongalo and Piaye. The entire area where the original 500+ acre estate was historically located is sometimes still referred to as "Balembouche" by locals. However, this is misleading, since those new developments, including an area called "Parc Lane" are no longer or were never part of the original Balembouche plantation. Historically, there are multiple spellings of the name, all referring to the same sugar plantation established by the French under colonial rule.
