Choi Hung Road Playground () is located in Choi Hung Road, San Po Kong, Wong Tai Sin District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The playground is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong. History Choi Hung Road Playground was built by the Urban Council and opened on 14 July 1964 by Urban Councillor Elsie Elliott. The park was later expanded to occupy the site formerly occupied by the adjacent Kai Tak Amusement Park. In the 1980s, a new gymnasium, market and cooking centre were built. Choi Hung Road
Choi Hung Road () is a road located in the Wong Tai Sin District, Kowloon of Hong Kong. It was first opened to the public in the 1920s as a part of Clear Water Bay Road, yet it was split from the road and named after the Choi Hung Estate in 1963. Nowadays the road has four lanes for traffic in both ways. Its starting point is at the intersection with Prince Edward Road and it ends at the roundabout at Choi Hung Estate. San Po Kong () is an area in New Kowloon in Hong Kong. It is largely industrial and partly residential. Administratively, it belongs to Wong Tai Sin District. Location San Po Kong is located south of Wong Tai Sin and Diamond Hill, north of the former Kai Tak International Airport and west of Ngau Chai Wan. The area is bounded by Choi Hung Road and Prince Edward Road East. History Village San Po Kong was a new village replacing the old Po Kong Village that was destroyed by the Japanese in 1943. The original village consisted of terraced housing and a small forested area along a hill. The hill was partially levelled by the Japanese during the extension of the runway at Kai Tak during World War II. Today the old village hill is now site of the Choi Hung Road Playground. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), is a department in the Government of Hong Kong. It reports to the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau, headed by the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism. It provides leisure and cultural activities for the people of Hong Kong, which was also one of the tasks of the former Urban Council, and Regional Council and Home Affairs Bureau. Urban Council
The Urban Council (UrbCo) was a municipal council in Hong Kong responsible for municipal services on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon (including New Kowloon). These services were provided by the council's executive arm, the Urban Services Department. Later, the equivalent body for the New Territories was the Regional Council. The council was founded as the Sanitary Board in 1883. It was renamed the Urban Council when new legislation was passed in 1936 expanding its mandate. Elsie Tu
Elsie Tu (; ; 2 June 1913 – 8 December 2015), known as Elsie Elliott in her earlier life, was an English-born Hong Kong social activist, elected member of the Urban Council of Hong Kong from 1963 to 1995, and member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong from 1988 to 1995. Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, Tu moved to Hong Kong in 1951 following a period as a missionary in China. She became known for her strong antipathy towards colonialism and corruption, as well as for her work for the underprivileged. She took the main role in the 1966 Kowloon riots when she opposed the Star Ferry fare increase which later turned into riots and faced accusations of inciting the disorder. Diamond Hill () is an MTR station located in Tai Hom, Northern Kowloon. It is an interchange station on the and . The station is incorporated into the large Plaza Hollywood development. Station layout Platforms 1 and 2 share an island platform, and platforms 3 and 4 share another. Space was reserved for the platforms of the East Kowloon line when this station was built in the 1970s.
