Chinese Translation Association
The Translators Association of China (TAC) () is a national association for translation studies in China. Founded in the 1980s TAC was part of the academic response to the national Economic Reform in 1978. The incumbent President of TAC's 6th Executive Committee is the former Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who in the meantime chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of China. TAC routinely hosts annual national symposium on varied topics related to translation and interpretation theories and practices. To facilitate the academic communication, it publishes bi-monthly periodical ''Chinese Translators Journal'' since 1983. In addition, the Association regulates the domestic translation service market through its Translation Service Committee, which was set up in 2003, in order to promote ethical business practices. As an interdiscipline, translation studies borrows much from the various fields of study that support translation. These include comparative literature, computer science, history, linguistics, philology, philosophy, semiotics, and terminology. The term "translation studies" was coined by the Amsterdam-based American scholar James S. Holmes in his 1972 paper "The name and nature of translation studies", which is considered a foundational statement for the discipline. Zi Zhongyun
Zi Zhongyun (; born June 1930) is a Chinese translator and historian who is an expert on US studies with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She is proficient in English and French. Biography Zi was born into a scholarly family in Shanghai in June 1930, with her ancestral home in Leiyang, Hunan, the daughter of Tong Yijun (), a Chinese officer, and Zi Yaohua (), a banker and financier who was a graduate of Kyoto University, University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University. She has two sister, Zi Huayun () and Zi Minyun (). Zi Huayuan, a dancer and actress, was born in 1936. Zi Minyun, a physicist, was born in 1938. Zi secondary studied at the Yaohua High School (). She entered Tsinghua University in 1948, majoring in English language and French language in the Department of Western Languages and Literature, where she graduated in 1951. American Literature
American literature is literature written or produced in the United States of America and in the colonies that preceded it. The American literary tradition thus is part of the broader tradition of English-language literature, but also includes literature of other traditions produced in the United States and in other immigrant languages. Furthermore, a rich tradition of oral storytelling exists amongst Native American tribes. The American Revolutionary Period (1775–1783) is notable for the political writings of Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson. Li Wenjun
Li Wenjun (; 8 December 1930 – 27 January 2023) was a Chinese translator and writer of prose. Li served as the vice chairman of Translators Association of China and as the director of the Literature and Art Translation Committee. He was also a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Li was one of the main translators of the works of the American novelists William Faulkner and Frances Hodgson Burnett into Chinese. For his contributions to the introduction of American literature to foreign readers, he was honored with the Sino-US Literature Exchange Award in 1994. Biography Li was born in Zhongshan, Guangdong on 8 December 1930. He graduated from Fudan University in 1952, where he majored in journalism at the Department of Journalism. BFSU
Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU; ), is a public university in Beijing, China. BFSU boasts the oldest language programs in China offering the largest number of foreign language majors on different educational levels. Located in Haidian District of Beijing BFSU is divided into east and west campuses. International Federation Of Translators
The Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (English: International Federation of Translators) is an international grouping of associations of translators, interpreters and terminologists. More than 100 professional associations are affiliated, representing over 80,000 translators in 55 countries. The goal of the Federation is to promote professionalism in the disciplines which it represents. It seeks constantly to improve conditions for the profession in all countries and to uphold translators' rights and freedom of expression.
