China Film Archive
The China Film Archive (CFA) is a Chinese film archive located in Beijing that is owned and operated by the Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party. It was founded to preserve existing Chinese films and restore ‘lost’ films. In recent years it has collaborated with international film bodies to assist in film preservation and has organised numerous events, most notably the Beijing International Film Festival. Aim The intention of the Archive upon its foundation was for preserving Chinese films and screening them in rural areas. In 2012, approximately 2,400 Chinese-produced films between 1905 and 1976 were stored in the archive. Overtime, the Archive has extended its services towards digitally restoring both Chinese and international films. In addition, the Archive undertakes research projects directed at finding ‘lost’ films and abandoned filmmaking practises. Central Propaganda Department Of The Chinese Communist Party
The Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, also known as the Propaganda Department or Central Propaganda Department, is an internal division of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in charge of spreading Ideology of the Chinese Communist Party, CCP ideology, as well as creation and dissemination of Propaganda in China, propaganda. The department is also one of the main entities that enforces Censorship in China, media censorship and control in the People's Republic of China. It was founded in May 1924, and was suspended during the Cultural Revolution, until it was restored in October 1977. Laborer's Love (1922)
''Laborer's Love'' () is a classic silent comedy short film produced in China during the Republican Era, which officially premiered on October 5, 1922 at the Olympic Theater in Shanghai. It is also known as ''Romance of a Fruit Peddler'' or ''Romance of a Fruit Pedlar'' (). Even though filmmaking in China began in the 1890's, ''Laborer's Love'' is the earliest complete film from China's early cinematic history that is available today. The film was also one of the earliest productions of the soon-to-be prolific Mingxing Film Company and was directed and written by Mingxing co-founders Zhang Shichuan and Zheng Zhengqiu. Notably, the film has both Chinese and English intertitles, indicating that at this early point in Shanghai cinema history, films were tailored to both Chinese and Western audiences. Zou Ye
Zou Ye ( born 20 October 1957 in Henan province, China), is a Chinese modern classical and film music composer. Zou was from the first generation of musical composition graduates from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music (then named the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts), when such education resumed with the end of the Cultural Revolution. Subsequently, Zou became the resident composer at the Wuhan Dance Theatre. During his ten-year residency (1982-1992), he completed a large number of orchestral works and, at the age of 26, Zou composed ''Zheng He'', a major opera based on the story of the ancient Chinese explorer with that name. In 1992, Zou started his residency at the National Children’s Theatre in Beijing, where he remains the sole composer to this day. The BFI London Film Festival is an annual film festival founded in 1957 and held in the United Kingdom, running for two weeks in October with co-operation from the British Film Institute. It screens more than 300 films, documentaries and shorts from approximately 50 countries. The film tells the story of an unnamed woman, who lives as a streetwalker by night and devoted mother by day in order to get her young son an education amid social injustice in the streets of Shanghai, China.
