Chimera (CrossGen)
''Chimera'' is an American comic book published by CrossGen Entertainment from March to July 2003. It is a mini-series that ran for four issues. ''Chimera'' is most notable for its artwork. Produced by Brandon Peterson, the artwork is a blend of traditional and computer-enhanced techniques. ''Chimera'' tells the story of Sara Janning, a woman who carves away massive chunks of ice as part of a tritium mining operation on the frozen world of Serevan, which on the edge of Chimeran space. Sara has been hiding on the world to hide her genetic makeup from the Chimeran Imperium, an empire of over 200 planets. When a stranger arrives at Serevan, however, Sara is discovered. Cross Generation Entertainment or CrossGen was an American comic book publisher and entertainment company that operated from 1998 to 2004. The company's assets were acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2004, and designated to Disney Publishing Worldwide. In July 2010, Disney re-established the brand through Marvel Comics, who announced plans to revive CrossGen titles. History CrossGen Comics, Inc., was founded in 1998, in Tampa, Florida, by entrepreneur Mark Alessi. In 1999, the company acquired the Orlando-based multi-genre fan convention MegaCon, from founder James Breitbiel. Breitbiel became CrossGen's Marketing and Distribution Director. Ron Marz (born November 17, 1965) is an American comic book writer, known for his work on titles such as ''Batman/Aliens'', ''DC vs. Marvel'', ''Green Lantern'', ''Silver Surfer'', and ''Witchblade''. Career Marz is known for his work on ''Silver Surfer'' and ''Green Lantern,'' as well as the ''DC vs. Marvel'' crossover and ''Batman/Aliens''. He co-created Genis-Vell in ''Silver Surfer Annual'' #6 (1993). Marz worked on the CrossGen Comics series ''Scion'', '' Mystic'', '' Sojourn'', and '' The Path''. At Dark Horse Comics he created '' Samurai: Heaven and Earth'' and various ''Star Wars'' comics. He has written for Devil's Due Publishing's Aftermath line including ''Blade of Kumori''. Brandon Peterson is an American comic book writer and artist, known for his work on Marvel Comics from Paterson New Jersey and Top Cow's '' Codename: Strykeforce'' in the 1990s. Career Peterson's early works for Marvel include a ''New Warriors'' annual and a fill-in in ''X-Factor'' in 1992. Later in the year, he had a short run in ''Uncanny X-Men'', drawing the title's issues of the "X-Cutioner's Song" storyline. Peterson left Marvel to join Top Cow, pencilling the ongoing title ''Codename: Strykeforce''. An American comic book is a thin periodical originating in the United States, on average 32 pages, containing comics. While the form originated in 1933, American comic books first gained popularity after the 1938 publication of ''Action Comics'', which included the debut of the superhero Superman. Limited Series (comics)
In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a One-shot (comics), one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues. In Dark Horse Comics' definition of a limited series, "this term primarily applies to a connected series of individual comic books. A limited series refers to a comic book series with a clear beginning, middle and end". A sigil () is a type of symbol used in magic. The term has usually referred to a pictorial signature of a deity or spirit. In modern usage, especially in the context of chaos magic, sigil refers to a symbolic representation of the practitioner's desired outcome. ''The First'' is a comic book series published by CrossGen featuring the First, very powerful, nearly immortal beings each based on a certain emotion. Due to CrossGen's bankruptcy in 2004, the plot of ''The First'', both in their own self-titled comic and CrossGen's other titles, was cut short. The role of the First in the ''Negation War'', a storyline in which the Sigil-Bearers and First were meant to defend the universe against invaders from another universe, is therefore unclear. ''Crux'' is an American comic book published by CrossGen Entertainment from May 2001 to February 2004. It was cancelled due to bankruptcy in 2004. ''Crux'' was one of the later titles that came first in a sort of second wave of Crossgen titles which included '' Sojourn'' and '' Brath''. It detailed the exploits of six Atlanteans who were put into stasis and are awoken 100,000 years later. Plot synopsis The main story arc centered on Capricia and the other Atlanteans efforts to revive the remaining Atlanteans still in stasis and to find out what happened to the human race, and perhaps to a latter extent how to go through 'transition' themselves. The group go through a series of battles with Negation forces who eventually attempt a full-scale invasion of Earth.
