Amar Chitra Katha (ACK Comics) is an Indian publisher of Indian comics and graphic novels. Most of its comics are based on religious legends and epics, historical figures and biographies, folktales and cultural stories. The company was founded in 1967 by Anant Pai and is headquartered in Mumbai. Creation and influence The comic series was started by Anant Pai in an attempt to teach Indian children about their cultural heritage. He was shocked that Indian students could answer questions on Greek and Roman mythology, but were ignorant of their own history, mythology and folklore. It so happened that a quiz contest aired on '' Doordarshan'' in February 1967, in which participants could easily answer questions pertaining to Greek mythology, but were unable to reply to the question "In the Ramayana, who was Rama's mother?". Ram Waeerkar
Ram Waeerkar (died 26 February 2003) was an Indian comics artist for the series Amar Chitra Katha, based on Indian mythology, history, and folklore. He illustrated the very first issue, 'Krishna' in 1969, and many others later. In the 1980s he was an illustrator for Tinkle, a magazine edited by Anant Pai. Here, he was the man behind the art of such iconic characters as Suppandi, Pyarelal, Nasruddin Hodja, Choru and Joru and many more. Ram Waeerkar died in 2003, with comics on Chanakya and Vishwamitra Vishvamitra ( sa, विश्वामित्र, ) is one of the most venerated rishis or sages of ancient India. Carlos Freixas i Baleitó, also known as Carles Freixas i Baleitó, (Barcelona, October 31, 1923 - February 26, 2003) was a Spanish cartoonist and illustrator whose most famous creation was '' "Pistol" Jim''. Kid Colt is the name of two fictional characters appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The first is a cowboy whose adventures have taken place in numerous western-themed comic book series published by Marvel. The second is a cowboy-themed horse-like superhero. The character's first appearance was in ''Kid Colt'' #1 (August 1948). Publication history Kid Colt starred in the comic book series '' Kid Colt Outlaw'', as well as in several other titles. ''Suske en Wiske Weekblad'' was a Belgian comics magazine which debuted in September 15, 1993 and ran in weekly syndication until December 24, 2003. It was based on the popularity of Suske en Wiske and notable for being the last attempt in Flanders to release a new comic book magazine. History Every new issue was published on Wednesdays. The magazine mostly published prepublications of comics distributed by Standaard Uitgeverij, such as Suske en Wiske and other comics of Studio Vandersteen. But it also provided a place for Dutch comics and translations of British, American, Walloon and French comic strip series. Some comics were reprints of older series, such as Boule et Bill. Lara Croft is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the video game franchise ''Tomb Raider''.
