Chief Of Naval Staff (Nigeria)
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) is the military head and highest ranking military officer of the Nigerian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff is usually the highest ranking and most senior admiral to serve in the Nigerian Armed Forces unless the Chief of the Defence Staff is a naval officer. The position is often occupied by the most senior commissioned officer appointed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The Chief of Naval Staff reports to the Chief of Defence Staff, who also reports to the Defence Minister. The Statutory duty of the Officer is to formulate and execute policies towards the highest attainment of National Security and operational competence of the Nigerian Navy. The current Chief of Naval Staff is Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo who was appointed on 26 January 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed Ibok Ekwe Ibas. Akintunde Aduwo
Chief Akintunde Aduwo (born 12 June 1938) is a retired Nigerian Navy Vice Admiral who served as Chief of Naval Staff from 1980 to 1983 and as military governor of the Nigerian Western State from July 1975 to August 1975 during the military regime of General Murtala Muhammed. Early years Akin Aduwo was born on 12 June 1938 in Ode-Aye in Okitipupa, Ondo State. He attended Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos (1952–1956). He worked as a clerk, then as a cadet in the Merchant Marines where he obtained British Merchant Navy Sea Training (1958–1960) and studied at the Liverpool College of Technology, Liverpool, England (1961–1962). Suleiman Saidu (born 1942) is a retired Nigerian Navy Rear Admiral who served as Chief of Naval Staff from September to November 1993. Rear Admiral Suleiaman Saidu joined the Nigerian Navy in 1961 and had his basic training at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in the United Kingdom.
