The Chief Executive Officer of Defence Equipment and Support, formerly the Chief of Defence Materiel, is a senior post in the UK Ministry of Defence created in April 2007. Chief Of Defence Logistics
The Chief of Defence Logistics was a senior post in the British armed forces. As of 1 April 2007 the Defence Logistics Organisation was merged with the Defence Procurement Agency to form a new organisation called Defence Equipment and Support. This was led by the Chief of Defence Materiel. CDL, as it is abbreviated, was responsible for all of the organisation and running of the logistical support to all three branches of the armed forces, the Royal Navy, the Army, and Royal Air Force. Defence Equipment And Support
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is a trading entity and joint-defence organisation within the UK Ministry of Defence. It began operating on 2 April 2007, following the merger of the MoD's Defence Procurement Agency and the Defence Logistics Organisation, under the Chief Executive Officer of Defence Equipment and Support. DE&S initially had a civilian and military workforce of around 29,000 (77 per cent civilian and 23 per cent military) in the UK and abroad. As of 2022 the DE&S workforce had reduced to around 11,500 with the majority based at MoD Abbey Wood in Bristol. History Defence Equipment and Support was established on 2 April 2007. Kevin O'Donoghue
General Sir Kevin O'Donoghue, (born 9 December 1947) is a retired British Army officer and former Chief of Defence Materiel. He retired from the service in December 2010, being succeeded as Chief of Defence Materiel by Bernard Gray. Early life O'Donoghue was born on 9 December 1947, to Phillip James O'Donoghue and Winifred Mary O'Donoghue. He studied at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He graduated in 1971 with a first-class Bachelor of Science. Military career O'Donoghue joined the Territorial Army in 1968. He was commissioned in the Royal Engineers as a second lieutenant (on probation) on 10 October 1968. He was attending university and had previously been an officer cadet. In 1971, after approximately two years as a troop commander in 75 Engineer Regiment, he converted to a Regular Commission and spent the next 5 years in the British Army of the Rhine. Sir Bernard Peter Gray (born 6 September 1960 in Redhill, Surrey) is a British businessman, journalist, and former government worker. Education Gray read chemistry at the University of Oxford. Career Gray worked for five years in investment banking and capital markets, for Bankers Trust and Chase Manhattan, in London and New York City. He spent nearly ten years as a journalist at the Financial Times Group, including as a defence correspondent. Tony Douglas is a British businessman. He served as the CEO of Etihad Airways from January 2018 to October 2022. He also previously served as chief executive of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (2013–2015), and as chief executive of Defence Equipment and Support department in the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence (2015–2017). Michael Paul Bradley CB is a British businessman. He has served as Chief Executive of Defence Equipment and Support. Career In 1995 Bradley joined Alstom Rail where he latterly served as Finance Director of their Traction business.
