The Ministry of Defence (MOD or MoD) is the department responsible for implementing the defence policy set by His Majesty's Government, and is the headquarters of the British Armed Forces. Douglas Lowe (RAF Officer)
Air Chief Marshal Sir Douglas Charles Lowe, (14 March 1922 – 24 January 2018) was a Second World War pilot and a senior commander in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the 1970s and early 1980s. Family Douglas Charles Lowe was born on 14 March 1922. He married Doreen Elizabeth Nichols the daughter of Ralph Henry Nichols. Their only daughter, Frances Elizabeth Lowe, married Christopher Russell Bailey, the 5th Baron Glanusk. RAF career Lowe enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR) in 1940,and trained under the Arnold Scheme at Americus Georgia. He returned to England and flew as a pilot during the Second World War. As a sergeant, he was granted an emergency commission in the RAFVR as a probationary pilot officer on 4 January 1943. Defence Equipment And Support
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) is a trading entity and joint-defence organisation within the UK Ministry of Defence. It began operating on 2 April 2007, following the merger of the MoD's Defence Procurement Agency and the Defence Logistics Organisation, under the Chief Executive Officer of Defence Equipment and Support. DE&S initially had a civilian and military workforce of around 29,000 (77 per cent civilian and 23 per cent military) in the UK and abroad. Clifford Cornford
Sir Edward Clifford Cornford, KCB (6 February 1918 – 6 May 1999) was a British civil servant and government scientist. Educated at Jesus College, Cambridge, he entered the Royal Aircraft Establishment in 1938 as a junior scientific officer. He was part of the Air Warfare Analysis Section from the outset of its existence and throughout the Second World War. Sir George Leitch, KCB, OBE (5 June 1915 – 16 March 2010) was an English civil servant. Educated at King's College, Newcastle (part of Durham University), he taught mathematics for two years before serving in the Army during the Second World War, working in operational research and ending his service with the rank of Brigadier as a deputy scientific adviser in the War Office. Demobilised in 1946, he entered the Ministry of Supply the next year. He then worked in the War Office and the Ministry of Defence, where he was promoted to deputy secretary in 1965.
