The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army ( id, Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Darat, abbreviated KSAD or KASAD) is the highest position in the Indonesian Army. The position is held by the four-star General appointed by and reporting directly to the Commander of the Armed Forces. Chief of Staff is assisted by the Vice Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, which the position is held by a three-star General. The current officeholder is General Dudung Abdurachman, who took office on 17 November 2021. General Dudung Abdurachman OLH (born 19 November 1965) is an Indonesian Army general who currently serves as the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (Kasad). He graduated from the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil) in 1988 beginning his career in the infantry. He was appointed as Commander of Kodam Jaya on 27 July 2020, then in 25 May 2021, appointed as commander of the Kostrad. Major General Pranoto Reksosamodra (16 April 1923 – 9 June 1992) was an Indonesian Army general who was briefly army chief of staff and was detained for 15 years without trial for alleged involvement in the 30 September Movement coup attempt. Early life and military career Pranoto was born in Bagelen, Purworejo, Central Java, the ninth of ten children. He completed his elementary education in 1937 and studied at the Muhammadiyah Dutch middle school in Yogyakarta until 1940. He then studied to be a teacher, graduating in 1943, after which he decided to join the PETA militia, which had been established by the Japanese forces then occupying the Dutch East Indies. During his training, he met and became a close friend of fellow cadet future Indonesian president Suharto. He moved up through the ranks, and fought in the Indonesian War of Independence. Makmun Murod
Makmun Murod (24 December 1924 – 13 September 2011), was an Indonesian politician and general, who served as a member of the People's Consultative Assembly from 1977 until 1982. Previously, he served as the 11th Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army from 1974 until 1978. Makmun Murod was born in Baturaja, South Sumatra, on December 24, 1924, during Dutch rule. He was educated at the Hollandsch-Inlandsche School, and graduated in 1939. He joined the People's Security Agency, following the proclamation of Independence. During the Indonesian National Revolution, he served in the military. Following the end of the revolution, he remained in the military. He rose through the ranks, until he became the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army. Makmun Murod died on September 13, 2011 at 12:45 at Pertamina Central Hospital, due to respiratory problems. Umar Wirahadikusumah (; 10 October 1924 – 21 March 2003) was an Indonesian politician and former army general, who served as the fourth Vice President of Indonesia, serving from 1983 until 1988. Previously, he was chair of the Audit Board of Indonesia from 1973 until 1983, and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army from 1969 until 1973. Born on 10 October 1924, to a noble Sundanese family. Maraden Saur Halomoan Panggabean (June 29, 1922 – May 28, 2000) or more commonly known as Maraden Panggabean was a prominent Indonesian general during the early years of General Suharto's New Order regime. Early life Panggabean was born in Tarutung, North Sumatra, on 29 June 1922. He is from the Batak ethnic group. After completing his education, Panggabean took on work as a teacher, an occupation held in high regard in the Batak community, and even became the principal of a school in Tarutung.
