It is the largest such organization in North America having the stated mission ''"to promote, grow and susta ... (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). From 2010 the event is officially the Freeman Mixed Board-a-Match Teams, as it is contested for the Richard Freeman Memorial Trophy, named for Richard Freeman (1933–2009). This is the fourth trophy in play, following Lebhar, Barclay, and Chicago. The event is a board-a-match team event. The event typically last 2–3 days with each day being a round consisting of two sessions of 26 boards. The event is open. Edith Seligman
Edith Freilich née Seamon (September 8, 1911 - May 14, 2011) was an American bridge player, "one of the world's greatest female bridge players". As a player in important tournaments, she was also known as Edith Seligman, Edith Kemp, and Edith Kemp Freilich. Among women, she is second to Helen Sobel Smith for winning the greatest number of North American Bridge Championships. She was from Miami Beach, Florida. Edith Seamon was raised in South Orange, New Jersey. Her brother, Billy Seamon, and sister, Anne Burnstein, also became leading bridge players. Freilich won the top two KO events on the ACBL calendar, the Vanderbilt and Spingold, in 1963. In 1984, her team won the Wagar. Freilich was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 1997. Kay Rhodes
Kathryn Mary "Kay" Rhodes (March 22, 1910 – June 19, 1996) was an American bridge player of New York City and later Rohnert Park, California. Rhodes was born in Washington, DC, on March 22, 1910, to parents with surnames Vandekoolwyk (father) and Friesman. She died in Sonoma, California, on June 19, 1996. Rhodes teamed with three other women—Paula Bacher (later Ribner), Jane Jaeger, and Sally Young—in the 1947 National Board-a-Match Teams championship, played for the Chicago Trophy (now the Reisinger Board-a-Match Teams or simply the Reisinger). They shared the title with two other teams and it remains the only win, albeit shared, for any all-women team in North America's three major open tournaments—Reisinger, Spingold, and Vanderbilt. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Helen Elizabeth Sobel Smith (''née'' Martin; May 22, 1909 – September 11, 1969) was an American bridge player. She is said to have been the "greatest woman bridge player of all time" and "may well have been the most brilliant card player of all time." She won 35 North American Bridge Championships, and was the first woman to play in the Bermuda Bowl. She was a long-time partner of Charles Goren. Sidney Silodor (November 13, 1906 – August 4, 1963) was an American bridge player. Silodor was a World Champion, winning the Bermuda Bowl in 1950. Silodor is currently 6th on the all-time list of North American Bridge Championships wins with 34. Silodor was a lawyer from Havertown, Pennsylvania. Silodor was named to its hall of fame by '' The Bridge World'' in 1966, which brought the number of members to nine, and was made a founding member of the ACBL Hall of Fame in 1995.
