Chicago Casino Proposals
The Chicago Casino Proposals is a request for proposals made to the City of Chicago, for the first casino within city limits. There were 5 original proposals. After vetoing 2, there were 3 remaining after the first round of selections. This included the Bally's Tribune site, the Hard Rock International One Chicago site, and the Rush Street Gaming 78 neighborhood site. On May 5, 2022, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that the Bally's Tribune site was her choice as the location for a city casino. History In 1990, when Illinois enacted the Riverboat Gambling Act, casinos had to be located on a river, and had to set sail during gambling. Over time these restrictions throughout the state of Illinois were lessened. For instance, in 2011, Rivers Casino in Des Plaines had to be built over a shallow pit of water. Medinah Temple
The Medinah Temple is a large Moorish Revival building in Chicago built by Shriners architects Huehl and Schmidt in 1912. It is located on the Near North Side of Chicago, Illinois at 600 N. Wabash Avenue, extending from Ohio Street to Ontario Street. In 2022, it was announced that the site will temporarily house a casino while the $1.7B Bally's Casino is under construction nearby. History The building originally housed an ornate auditorium seating approximately 4,200 on three levels. The stage floor extended a considerable distance into the auditorium, and the seating was arranged in a U-shape around it. The auditorium contained an Austin Organ Company pipe organ (opus no. 558), installed in 1915, with 92 ranks, a 5-manual fixed console and a 4-manual movable console (added in 1931). The 78
The 78 is a development in Chicago that will consist of several office and residential towers, high-rises, and will also include a riverwalk. The name "The 78" refers to the existing 77 community areas in Chicago and the mega-development is to increase that number by one. Related Midwest will develop the site, and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the project's master plan. Related Midwest acquired the land in 2016. The 78 development will be located on a 62-acre parcel of land just south of Downtown Chicago and north of Chinatown. The area is bordered by Roosevelt Road to the north, Clark Street to the east, 16th Street to the south, and the South Branch of the Chicago River to the west.
