Chevron Corporation is an American multinational List of oil exploration and production companies, energy corporation. The second-largest Successors of Standard Oil, direct descendant of Standard Oil, and originally known as the Standard Oil Company of California (shortened to Socal or CalSo), it is headquartered in San Ramon, California, and active in more than 180 countries. Chevron is engaged in every aspect of the Petroleum, oil and natural gas industries, including hydrocarbon exploration and Petroleum#Extraction, production; refining, marketing and transport; chemicals manufacturing and sales; and power generation. Chevron traces its history back to the 1870s. The company grew quickly after the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey v. San Ramon ( Spanish: ''San Ramón'', meaning "St. Raymond") is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States, located within the San Ramon Valley, and east of San Francisco.
