Herbert Chermside
Lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Charles Chermside, (31 July 1850 – 24 September 1929) was a British Army officer who served as Governor of Queensland from 1902 to 1904. Early life and education Chermside was born in the town of Wilton in Wiltshire on 31 July 1850. His parents were Rev. Richard Seymour Conway Chermside, rector of Wilton and son of Sir Robert Alexander Chermside, and Emily Dawson. He was a scholar at Eton College and then attended the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, where he graduated at the top of his year and was commissioned in the Royal Engineers in 1870.Paul D. Robert Alexander Chermside
Sir Robert Alexander Chermside, KH, FRCP (1792 – 8 September 1860) was a British physician. Chermside was born in Dublin, the son of surgeon Robert Alexander Chermside and Annie Price Pooley.''Ireland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1620-1911'' In 1810, he entered the medical service of the British Army as assistant-surgeon of the 7th Hussars, served in France, Spain, Flanders and was present at the Battle of Waterloo. Immediately after Waterloo, he was promoted to surgeon of the 10th Hussars. In 1821, he was admitted as a licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians and later elected a Fellow in 1836. In 1817, he graduated MD at the University of Edinburgh and was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and London and the Société de Médecine Pratique in Paris. Geography Chermside West is located by road north of the Brisbane GPO. History The name Chermside honours Queensland Governor, Sir Herbert Chermside. St Gerard Majella's Catholic Church opened in 1962 in Pullford Road. In 1977 the congregation opened the current church in Maundrell Terrace, and the Pullford Road church was later acquired by the Kedron Brook Christadelphians. The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church opened a church in Maundrell Terrace about 1965. In 1984 the church established the Prince of Peace Lutheran Primary School in Everton Hills.
