Cheng Gongliang
Cheng Gongliang 成公亮 (August 1940 －8 July 2015) sometimes also given as Cheng Gong Liang or Cheng Gong-liang, was a renowned guqin player in the Guangling style. Hailing from Yixing he was noted also for his writings on guqin playing and his compositions for the instrument, some of them drawing on other traditions of music. He taught from 1984 at Nanjing Arts Institute, and lived in Nanjing for the rest of his life, though he travelled domestically and abroad to perform. Shanghai Conservatory Of Music
The Shanghai Conservatory of Music () was founded on November 27, 1927, as the first music institution of higher education in China. Its teachers and students have won awards at home and abroad, thus earning the conservatory the name "the cradle of musicians." It is a Chinese state Double First Class University. Guqin
The ''guqin'' (; ) is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument. It has been played since ancient times, and has traditionally been favoured by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement, as highlighted by the quote "a gentleman does not part with his ''qin'' or '' se'' without good reason," as well as being associated with the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius. It is sometimes referred to by the Chinese as "the father of Chinese music" or "the instrument of the sages". The ''guqin'' is not to be confused with the '' guzheng'', another Chinese long stringed instrument also without frets, but with moveable bridges under each string. Yixing
Yixing () is a county-level city administrated under the prefecture-level city of Wuxi in southern Jiangsu province, China, and is part of the Yangtze River Delta. The city is known for its traditional Yixing clay ware tea pots. It is a pene-exclave with Changzhou. The city spans an area of , and has a registered hukou population of about 1,075,800 as of 2020. History During the Xia dynasty and the Shang dynasty, the area fell under the jurisdiction of Yangzhou and was known as Jingxi (). Nanjing Arts Institute
The Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA; ), also known as the Nanjing Arts Institute, is a university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine arts, design, and related subjects. The institutional history begins in 1912, with the foundation of Shanghai Chinese Art College. The name was changed to the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts of in 1930. The amalgamation of several universities in 1952 produced East China Arts College, situated in Wuxi. In 1958, East China Arts College relocated to Nanjing, and in 1959 it acquired its present name.
