Chelsea Society
The Chelsea Society was founded in 1927, by the Chelsea historian and author Reginald Blunt, with the aim of protecting the historic fabric of Chelsea and of influencing future environmental changes. The Society's aims are to protect the interests of all who live and work in Chelsea and to preserve and enhance the unique character of the Chelsea district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Chelsea, London
Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames and for postal purposes is part of the south-western postal area. Chelsea historically formed a manor and parish in the Ossulstone hundred of Middlesex, which became the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea in 1900. It merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Kensington, forming the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea upon the creation of Greater London in 1965. The exclusivity of Chelsea as a result of its high property prices historically resulted in the coining of the term "Sloane Ranger" in the 1970s to describe some of its residents, and some of those of nearby areas. Charles Gerald John Cadogan, 8th Earl Cadogan, (born 24 March 1937), styled as Viscount Chelsea until 1997, is a British billionaire peer and landowner. He is a first cousin of the Aga Khan IV, spiritual head of the Ismaili sect of Shia Muslims. Gregory William Hands (born 14 November 1965) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chelsea and Fulham, previously Hammersmith and Fulham, since 2005. A member of the Conservative Party, he has served as Minister of State for Trade Policy since 2022, previously holding the office twice, from 2016 to 2018 and from 2020 to 2021.
