Gerald Chatham
Gerald Weissinger Chatham (February 17, 1906 – October 9, 1956) was an American lawyer, best known for acting as lead prosecutor in the Emmett Till case in 1955. Biography Chatham was born in Hernando, Mississippi in 1906. He attended the University of Mississippi for both his undergraduate and law degrees. At the age of 35, he became District Attorney of Tallahatchie County and would hold that station until 1955, the year that he prosecuted J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant for the murder of Emmett Till. Chatham's family claims that the pressures of the trial harmed his health and ultimately led to a fatal heart attack a year after its completion. His son, Gerald Chatham Jr., who was 11 years old at the time of the trial, would later serve two terms as district attorney in the same district as his father. John Chatham (Australian Politician)
John Chatham (16 October 1866 – 28 February 1925) was an Australian politician. He was born in Napoleons to farmer James Chatham and Margaret Hanlon. He worked in various sawmills and as a contractor before buying land at Rokewood Junction and becoming a leading wheat farmer. On 25 August 1897 he married Ellen McGrath, with whom he had four children. He was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly at a by-election in 1913, representing Grenville as a member of the Labor Party. He was expelled for supporting conscription in the 1916 Labor split, and did not run for re-election in 1917. John Purnell Chatham
John Purnell Chatham (July 2, 1872 – October 3, 1914) was an American sailor serving in the United States Navy during Boxer Rebellion who received the Medal of Honor for bravery. Biography Chatham was born July 2, 1872, in Worcester County, Maryland and after entering the US Navy, Chatham was sent to China to fight in the Boxer Rebellion. Rhys Chatham (born September 19, 1952) is an American composer, guitarist, trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist (flutes in C, alto and bass, keyboard), primarily active in avant-garde and minimalism, minimalist music. He is best known for his "guitar orchestra" compositions. He has lived in France since 1987. Early years Chatham began his musical career as a piano tuner for avant-garde pioneer La Monte Young as well as harpsichord tuner for Gustav Leonhardt, Rosalyn Tureck and Glenn Gould. Richard Thurmond Chatham (August 16, 1896 – February 5, 1957), who usually went by Thurmond Chatham, was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, an industrialist and philanthropist. He represented North Carolina from 1949 to 1957. Early years Born in Elkin, North Carolina, Chatham was the only son of Hugh Gwyn Chatham and Martha Lenoir Chatham. Russell Chatham (October 27, 1939 – November 10, 2019) was a contemporary American landscape artist and author who spent most of his career living in Livingston, Montana. The artist was the grandson of landscape painter Gottardo Piazzoni, though he was essentially a self-taught artist. His work has been exhibited in over 400 one man shows and in museums and galleries over the last five decades.
