The following is a list of characters in the Hellblazer mythos published by Vertigo imprint. John Constantine A Liverpudlian magician and conman, and the main character in the series. He first appeared in ''Swamp Thing'' (vol. 2) #37 in June 1985. In his early appearances, Constantine was depicted as a sorcerer of questionable morality, whose appearance was based on that of the musician Sting (specifically, as Sting appeared in the movies ''Brimstone and Treacle'' and ''Quadrophenia''). Alan Moore created the character after artists Stephen R. Bissette and John Totleben, who were fans of Sting's band the Police, expressed a desire to draw a character who looked like Sting. Major characters Francis William "Chas" Chandler John Constantine's best friend, and a London taxi driver. Hellblazer
''John Constantine, Hellblazer'' is an American contemporary Horror fiction, horror comic-book series published by DC Comics since January 1988, and subsequently by its Vertigo Comics, Vertigo imprint since March 1993, when the imprint was introduced. Its central character is the streetwise English exorcist and con man John Constantine, who was created by Alan Moore and Stephen R. Bissette, and first appeared as a supporting character in ''Swamp Thing'' (vol. 2) #37 (June 1985), during that creative team's run on that title. ''Hellblazer'' had been published continuously since January 1988, and was Vertigo's longest-running title, the only remaining publication from the imprint's launch. In 2013, the series concluded with issue 300, and was replaced by ''Constantine (comics), Constantine'', which returned the character to the mainstream DC Universe. Garth Ennis
Garth Ennis (born January 16, 1970) is a Northern Irish–American comics writer, best known for the Vertigo series ''Preacher'' with artist Steve Dillon, his nine-year run on Marvel Comics' Punisher franchise, and '' The Boys'' with artist Darick Robertson. He has collaborated with artists such as Dillon and Glenn Fabry on ''Preacher'', John McCrea on ''Hitman'', Marc Silvestri on '' The Darkness'', and Carlos Ezquerra on both ''Preacher'' and ''Hitman''. His work has won him recognition in the comics industry, including nominations for the Comics Buyer's Guide Award for Favorite Writer in 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Early life Ennis is originally from Northern Ireland. Raised with no religion, Ennis's first exposure to the idea of God was as a six-year-old in primary school. Circe (character)
Circe is a fictional character appearing in DC Comics publications and related media. Based upon Circe, the eponymous Greek mythological figure who imprisoned Odysseus in Homer's ''Odyssey'', she is a wicked sorceress and major recurring adversary of the superhero Wonder Woman. She has been presented variously since first appearing in 1949’s ''Wonder Woman (comic book), Wonder Woman'' #37, though her characterization has consistently retained a key set of features: immortality, stunning physical beauty, a powerful command over sorcery, a penchant for turning human beings into animals (like her mythological antecedent) and often, a delight in humiliation. Though she first appeared as a Wonder Woman villain, Circe would spend the next 43 years as an antagonist for other DC Comics heroes, such as Rip Hunter, the Sea Devils (comics), Sea Devils, and particularly Superman and Supergirl, for whom she was a persistent foil (and sometimes ally) throughout the late-1950’s and 1960’ ...
