Charm City Art Space
Charm City Art Space is a music venue/art space located at 1731 Maryland Avenue, in Baltimore, Maryland, in the Station North arts district. This area is home to several do it yourself (DIY) projects, including the Velocipede Bike Project, and the Jerk Store. It is also known as ''the space'', ''the art space'', or ''CCAS''. The CCAS opened in summer 2002 to be a community-run facility where artists and musicians could showcase their work. The CCAS is a mixed-used facility with frequent art exhibits and a large zine library, but it has functioned primarily as a music venue for smaller independent music acts. It hosted its first show July 1. As of October 2009, it had hosted more than 1000 shows, mostly hardcore punk and indie acts, including The Thermals, Modern Life Is War, Majority Rule. The Alternative Music Foundation located at 924 Gilman Street, often referred to by its fans simply as "Gilman", is a non-profit, all-ages, collectively organized music club. It is located in the West Berkeley area of Berkeley, California, about a mile and a half west of the North Berkeley BART station and a quarter-mile west of San Pablo Avenue, at the corner of 8th and Gilman Streets. Gilman is mostly associated with being the springboard for the '90s punk revival led by bands like Green Day, Operation Ivy, Rancid, AFI, and The Offspring. ABC No Rio
ABC No Rio is a collectively-run non-profit arts organization on New York City's Lower East Side. It was founded in 1980 in a squat at 156 Rivington Street, following the eviction of the 1979-80 Real Estate Show. The centre featured an art gallery space, a zine library, a darkroom, a silkscreening studio, and public computer lab. In addition, it played host to a number of radical projects including weekly hardcore punk matinees and the city Food Not Bombs collective. Modern Life Is War is an American hardcore punk band formed in Marshalltown, Iowa in 2002. During Modern Life Is War's six-year original run, the band released three full-length albums and one self-titled 7" EP. Despite a growing profile on the underground hardcore circuit, and garnering critical acclaim from numerous musical outlets, Modern Life Is War announced its dissolution in early 2008; however, the band reunited in 2012.
