Charlottenlund Castle
Charlottenlund Castle ( sv, Charlottenlunds slott) is a castle in Ystad Municipality, Scania, in southern Sweden. Charlottenlund is located 5 miles west of Ystad. The castle was built in 1849 in Gothic Revival style, with an open courtyard with a gallery. From the beginning, Charlottenlund belonged to Marsvinsholm estate and was then called ''Snårestad's manor''. The farm was subdivided in 1841 and bought in 1848 by Count Arvid Posse. It was he who had the current main building erected. In 1902, the estate was bought and restored by the Danish-born industrialist and his wife Clara Lachmann. It is still owned by his descendants. Ystad Municipality ( sv, Ystads kommun) is a municipality in Scania County in southern Sweden. Its seat is the town of Ystad. The present municipality was created in 1971 by the amalgamation of the former ''City of Ystad'' with four surrounding municipalities. Charlottenlund is a suburban area on the coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the administrative seat of Gentofte Municipality. Bordered to the east by the Øresund, to the South by Hellerup and to the north by Klampenborg, it is one of the wealthiest areas in Denmark. The neighbourhood takes its name after Charlottenlund Palace. History In 1733, King Christian VI of Denmark rebuilt the Gyldenlund Palace, renaming it Charlottenlund Palace after his sister Princess Charlotte Amalie. Ystad
Ystad (; older da, Ysted) is a town and the seat of Ystad Municipality, in Scania County, Sweden. Ystad had 18,350 inhabitants in 2010. The settlement dates from the 11th century and has become a busy ferryport, local administrative centre, and tourist attraction. The detective series ''Wallander'', created by Henning Mankell, is set primarily in Ystad. In 1285, the town's name was written ''Ystath''. Gothic Revival (also referred to as Victorian Gothic, neo-Gothic, or Gothick) is an architectural movement that began in the late 1740s in England. The movement gained momentum and expanded in the first half of the 19th century, as increasingly serious and learned admirers of the neo-Gothic styles sought to revive medieval Gothic architecture, intending to complement or even supersede the neoclassical styles prevalent at the time. Marsvinsholm Castle
Marsvinsholm Castle ( sv, Marsvinsholms slott) is situated in Ystad Municipality, Scania, in southern Sweden, from Ystad. History The estate was first known as Bosøe, Borsøe and Bordsyø and is known from the 14th century. During the late 14th century, it became part of the royal Danish crown land, and was owned by king Valdemar Atterdag of Denmark, Valdermar Atterdag and later by his daughter, queen Margaret I of Denmark, Margrethe. Around 1520 it was pawned to Danish admiral Jens Holgersen Ulfstand who in 1499 had constructed nearby Glimmingehus. The property ceased to be crown land. In 1630, Palle Ulfsted sold the property to Danish nobleman Otte Marsvin, who constructed the present castle 1644–1648, naming it after his family. Arvid Posse
Count Arvid Rutger Fredriksson Posse (15 February 1820 – 24 April 1901) was the prime minister of Sweden from 1880 to 1883. Family background and education Posse was born at Rosendal manor in Malmöhus County, as the son of Governor Count Fredrik Posse and Baroness Magdalena Charlotta Bennet. In 1835 he enrolled at Lund University, receiving a law degree in 1840. The same year, he began as a trainee at the Court of Appeal of Skåne and Blekinge (''Hovrätten över Skåne och Blekinge''), during which time he worked both at district courts and at the Court of Appeal itself. Later, he was appointed assistant district judge (''vice häradshövding'') and in 1846 a clerk at the Court of Appeal, and in 1847 was made an associate justice at the court. Clara Lachmann
Clara Lachmann (; 10 April 1864 – 10 August 1920) was a Danish and Swedish patron of the arts. After coming into immense wealth following her marriage to one of the richest men in Sweden, Lachmann became a prominent sponsor of musical events, building restorations, and new constructions. Additionally, she dedicated a significant portion of money in her will to the establishment of the Clara Lachmann Foundation, which promotes Scandinavism through culture and the arts.
